What are the types of flexible circuit boards used for flexible LED light strips, and what are their advantages and disadvantages?

LED light strips, also known as flexible LED light strips, use flexible circuit boards, which are soft and flexible, resistant to bending and bending, and highly flexible. They are widely used in the production of linear lighting products such as light strips.

The unique characteristics of flexible circuit boards make them rigid circuit boards in many occasions, while also driving the development of many fields.

Common types of flexible circuit boards:

1. Single panel

After the completion of the circuit, a single sided PI copper clad board is used to cover it with a protective film, forming a soft circuit board with only a single layer of conductors;

2. Ordinary double-sided board

After the completion of the double-sided circuit, a double-sided PI copper clad material is used, and a protective film is added to each side to form a circuit board with double-layer conductors;

3. Generate a single panel from the substrate

Using pure copper foil material in circuit manufacturing, a protective film is added on each side of the circuit board, creating a circuit board with only a single layer of conductor but exposed on both sides of the board;

4. Base plate generation double-sided board;

Using two layers of single-sided PI coated copper sheet material with adhesive tape for window opening at a specific location, a double-sided conductor circuit board is formed by pressing in a local area and separating the two layers in a local area.

A circuit board with high flexural performance in the layered area.

There are four main types of flexible circuit boards.

Advantages of flexible circuit boards:

1. It can be freely bent, wound, folded, and arranged according to spatial layout requirements;

2. Utilizing FPC can greatly reduce the volume and weight of electronic products;

3. FPC also has good heat dissipation, weldability, and ease of assembly, resulting in lower overall costs.

Disadvantages of flexible circuit boards:

1. High initial one-time cost

Due to the fact that soft PCB circuit boards are designed for special applications, the cost of circuit design, wiring, and camera base plates is relatively high, unless there is a special need to apply soft PCB;

2. It is difficult to modify and repair soft PCB

Once a soft PCB circuit board is made, changes must start from the base image or the programmed photo program, so it is not easy to make changes. The surface is covered with a protective film, which needs to be removed before repair, this is a relatively difficult job;

3. Size restricted

Soft PCB circuit boards are usually manufactured using the intermittent process in the absence of widespread use, so they cannot be made very long or wide due to the limitations of production equipment size;

4. Improper operation can easily cause damage.
