On April 14, Samsung Electronics announced at CinemaCon 2026 that it would launch a new 14-meter standard size model of its Onyx LED movie screen series to further expand the application scenarios of large-size high-end cinemas.
The new product is mainly aimed at Advanced Large Format (PLF) theaters. While continuing the image quality, reliability and scalability of the Onyx series, it is optimized for larger screening spaces. Samsung said that as the theater industry’s demand for high-end movie viewing experience increases, large-size screening rooms are becoming an important development direction, and the 14-meter size can help enhance immersion and optimize space utilization.
In terms of technology, the display supports 4K 120Hz playback and uses 3.3mm pixel pitch to ensure picture clarity and consistency under large-size conditions. At the same time, the product supports flexible expansion and can be extended from 14 meters to a maximum of 20 meters, achieving a larger display area through modular splicing. The Onyx series also supports two mainstream formats, 2.39:1 and 1.85:1, and has a maximum brightness of approximately 300 nits, 100% color gamut volume, and high contrast performance.
In addition to movie screenings, Onyx LED movie screens can also be used in a variety of scenarios such as sports events, concerts, games, and corporate events. Compared with traditional projection systems, it can provide stable brightness and image quality at different viewing positions, and is compatible with a variety of media server systems.
In terms of market applications, Samsung said that the deployment of Onyx LED movie screens in high-end theaters around the world continues to advance. For example, in projects such as Pathé Cinema in Rabat, Morocco and Trilith Cinemas in Georgia, the United States, multi-hall scale applications have been achieved. With the further expansion of product size, Samsung is accelerating its layout in the field of high-end cinema LED displays.
