2.413 billion, South Korea accelerates the advancement of cutting-edge display projects

On March 12, Chungcheongnam-do Province announced that the "Advanced Display National Research Platform Construction Project" led by the Korean government has passed the preliminary feasibility study of the Ministry of Science, Technology, Information and Communications Technology (ICT).

Looking back on the background of the project, in November 2025, Chungcheongnam Province participated in the bidding for the "Advanced Display National Research Platform Construction Project" organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (TRAE), and Asan City was finally selected as the project implementation location. After winning the bid, Chungcheongnam Province is currently in the land acquisition and design preparation stages. It plans to concentrate administrative resources to complete the pre-feasibility study in the second half of this year, with a view to officially launching the project next year.

According to reports, the project aims to ensure the research and development of next-generation display source technology by establishing an open platform based on artificial intelligence, and build a full-cycle integrated support system of "technology research and development → process verification → mass production". Its goal is to achieve the agglomeration of the industrial ecosystem through manufacturing innovation based on artificial intelligence, thereby taking advantage of the display market.

The basic framework of the project is to invest 520 billion won (approximately RMB 2.413 billion) in the Asan Tangjeong Science and Technology Comprehensive Industrial Park in the seven years from next year to 2033 to promote infrastructure construction and innovative technology development.

Among them, Chungcheongnam-do plans to invest 200 billion won (approximately RMB 928 million) by 2030 to build a display technology research institute with a total area of 8,000 square meters and equipped with 56 types of core equipment. By 2033, the government will invest an additional 320 billion won (approximately RMB 1.485 billion) to implement 31 research and development projects covering new materials, components, processes, systems and other fields to ensure continued technological advantages and support enterprise development.

The research center will serve as a control center for cutting-edge display technology and a national technology hub, bringing together enterprises, universities and scientific research institutions, and becoming a bridgehead for the "research → commercialization" process.

Against the background that the global display industry is accelerating its reorganization towards OLED and market competition is becoming increasingly fierce, Chungcheongnam-do hopes to develop world-class technology and cultivate an innovation ecosystem by establishing a national advanced display technology research platform.

At the same time, Chungcheongnam-do is also working hard to build a display innovation technology center, an inorganic light-emitting display intelligent modular center, a professional complex for display materials and components, a national advanced strategic industrial base in Korea, and an adaptable display technology base to create a flexible and scalable industrial structure.
