In the early morning of April 17th (today), Beijing time, Reuters reported that Gucci parent company Kering Group CEO Luca de Meo said that the company plans to cooperate with Google to launch Gucci-branded smart glasses, which are expected to be officially released in 2027. It is expected to make the company the first major luxury brand to enter the field of AI smart glasses.
This layout will directly benchmark the Ray-Ban smart glasses product jointly produced by Essilor, Luxottica and Meta. De Meo said in an interview during the Capital Markets Day event in Florence, "Maybe next year, that is, 2027."
This project is part of Kering's overall strategy to expand its eyewear and jewelry business. These two sectors currently account for a low proportion of the group's revenue and are also seen as important measures to deal with Gucci's weak sales in recent years.
De Meo said Kering hopes to increase operating profit margins to more than double current levels to return to the ranks of leading luxury goods groups and promote the recovery of Gucci. It is reported that he also pointed out that Gucci needs to refocus on its most recognizable design language. "In the course of 105 years of development, Gucci has formed some very distinctive aesthetic symbols. Sometimes we do not use them, and sometimes we overuse them."
He also said that the situation in the Middle East has had an impact on luxury goods sales and tourism in the Gulf market, and further illustrates the need for companies to adapt to a more differentiated global landscape. "We need to adjust our business models in many aspects to adapt to a multi-polar world, which is a different competitive environment."
