"Koenigswinter" light sculpture

KÖNIGSWINTER is a light sculpture created by Heilig Objects, constructed from recycled corrugated fiberglass panels from an abandoned hillside cabin in the forest above Königswinter near the Siebengebirge nature reserve in western Germany. The panels, which have been exposed to outdoor conditions for approximately fifty years, were selected for their structural integrity, translucency and depth.

Designer Daniel Heilig spent five years identifying materials with the necessary qualities to support the intended space and luminous effects. Prolonged exposure to sunlight, frost and rainfall results in an amber hue, a visible network of fibers and subtle changes in the density of each surface. Originally used as functional daylight elements, the panels are now placed within bespoke timber frames, introducing structural clarity while maintaining the material's existing properties.

All fiberglass panels originate from a forest site in KÖNIGSWINTER. Their luster is developed entirely through environmental exposure, producing tonal variations and surface irregularities that are characteristic of each piece. Interventions in the materials were limited to cleaning, stabilization where necessary and precise integration into a wooden support frame designed to hold the panels in place without changing their inherent qualities.

LED elements are located behind each panel, combined with light-diffusing layers to emphasize the fiberglass as a material rather than a purely optical effect. Due to the limited number of recyclable panels, the collection developed by designer Daniel Heilig of Heilig Objects is a limited edition.

When unlit, the sculpture appears as a framed plane defined by layered translucencies and surface textures. Once illuminated, the embedded fiber optics become more visible and the panel emits a warm amber glow. A subtle halo effect forms around the frame, outlining the object in the surrounding space.

"Königswinter" is available in two configurations: MONO, which is equipped with a single dimmable light source; and DUO, which combines independently adjustable upper and lower light elements. These options allow for variations in tonal intensity, from soft amber illumination to brighter mineral-like clarity. Both versions are available for wall or suspended installation. Each piece includes a numbered certificate indicating its place in the limited series.
