Some time ago, Hong Kong’s richest man Li Ka-shing pursued Nanoleaf’s nano-LED light bulbs, which immediately triggered a Midas-to-gold effect in the lighting market. Benefiting from the "Li Ka-shing effect", Nanoleaf's current sales response is satisfactory, with 3,000 customers shipped during the Lunar New Year. However, Nanoleaf not only failed to take advantage of the situation to increase production, but even suspended sales because the company planned to launch an "enhanced version" of Nanoleaf light bulbs in two months.
Deploying an enhanced version, it is necessary to reduce prices in the future
The three founders of LED light bulb developer Nanoleaf recently accepted an exclusive interview with Apple Daily and said that the goal is neither to make a lot of money nor to plan to go public. They only hope to contribute to environmental protection. "If one day, when everyone looks up, they will say that the things on the ceiling are leaves, not bulbs, how great would it be."
Nanoleaf is composed of three engineers. It mainly develops super energy-saving LED light bulbs, which save 88% of electricity than traditional light bulbs. They can be used continuously for more than 30,000 hours, which is 20 times that of traditional light bulbs. They have passed the test of lighting safety standard projects such as torque, drop, and high voltage by Intertek, a global lighting testing expert. At the end of last year, Horizons Ventures, Li Ka-shing's private company, acquired a stake.
One of the company’s founders, 30-year-old Gimmy Zhu, said Nanoleaf’s current sales response is ideal, with 3,000 customers shipped during the Lunar New Year. However, the factory shut down during the Lunar New Year, with 700 customersCustomers will not be able to pick up their orders until after the holidays. Nanoleaf not only did not take advantage of the situation to increase production, but even suspended sales because the company plans to launch an "enhanced version" of Nanoleaf light bulbs in two months, which can adjust the brightness and warm the color temperature (i.e. the light will be more yellowish).
. Zhu Jiajun also said that being selected by Victoria Harbor was all thanks to Meric Gertler, the president of his alma mater, the University of Toronto, who searched for this product from the old student website and then recommended it to Victoria Harbor Investment. Finally, he met with Zhou Kaixuan, the person in charge of Victoria Harbor and Li Ka-shing's confidante.
Zhu Jiajun recalled the scene of the face-to-face conversation with Li Ka-shing four months ago, describing the three of them as being extremely excited and so nervous that they were tongue-tied when speaking, "It was just after Christmas, the three of us visited Hong Kong and talked with Li Sheng for about an hour, and he asked a lot of questions. He was indeed very happy.Love this product, he was smiling the whole time, I believe he is a super, super nice guy. "
"
"We didn't have high hopes at the time, we just went back to do research as usual. Unexpectedly, we received a notice a few days later that Li Sheng was willing to cooperate with us and help us realize our dream. "Zhu Jiajun did not want to disclose the amount of capital invested by Victoria Harbor Investment, but described the funds as "enough" to allow Nanoleaf to mass-produce LED light bulbs. I believe that both Li Ka-shing and Zhou Kaixuan hope to change the world with technology."
