Lighting standards are becoming clearer and the industry is on the road to standardization

Recently, Guangdong Province issued 11 local standards involving LED lighting, pushing the standardization development of the industry one step further. I believe that last year, many people complained about the lack of standards and disordered competition in the LED lighting industry. However, since this year, standards have come to the fore. First, the newly formulated "Performance Requirements for Embedded LED Lamps" and other national standards were released in early January. This standard is the first national standard for the performance of LED lamps introduced in my country. Then, various regional government departments or industry organizations have successively released a series of LED lighting-related standards. So far, although it is not perfect, comprehensive standardization of the industry is still on the way.
Guangdong Province issued 58 local standards involving 11 LED lighting items
In July this year, 58 local standards in Guangdong Province approved and released by the Guangdong Provincial Quality Supervision Bureau were officially implemented, 11 of which involve the LED lighting industry, including the LED lighting design standard for elevator lighting (numbered DB4 4/T1336-2014) formulated by Jiangmen Junda Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd., an enterprise in Jiangmen High-tech Zone. This standard is the first time it has been formulated in the province and even the country.
It is reported that the LED lighting design standards for elevator lighting stipulate lighting standard value, quality, energy saving evaluation, lighting power supply and distribution and other indicators. It is suitable for DC power with rated voltage below 250V and AC power below 1000V. It can be widely used in the lighting systems of passenger elevators and freight elevators in office buildings, commercial residential buildings, shopping malls, stations, subways, airports and other public places.
Implementation of relevant standards for LED explosion-proof lighting
In July, the National Standards Committee launched three plans to formulate standards for LED explosion-proof lamps, aiming to standardize the market, guide the industry, and promote innovation in the fields of intelligent lighting control, application interface specifications, and accelerated detection methods for LED explosion-proof lamps through the formulation of technical standards. On the international front, the Zhaga Alliance announced the LED explosion-proof light engine interface specifications Book7 and Book8. The new energy efficiency standards for LED explosion-proof lamps formulated by the European Union were also officially implemented in March 2014. New LED explosion-proof lamp products on sale are mandatory to bear energy labels.
4 LED lighting industry standards released
The Semiconductor Lighting Technology Evaluation Alliance and the China Semiconductor Lighting/LED Industry and Application Alliance released four urgently needed standards for the LED lighting industry in April, including LED double-ended lamp safety requirements, performance requirements, and non-directional self-ballasted LED lamp specification classification and performance requirements. Among them, the "Specification Classification of Non-directional Self-ballasted LED Lamps for General Lighting", as an important basic standard for the semiconductor lighting industry, has been adopted by the International Electrotechnical Commission, an authoritative international standards organization. This classification standard proposes for the first time in the world to use "lumens" to express lighting effects instead of the traditional "watts". As a new concept for classifying LED lamp specifications, it can better reflect the characteristics and advantages of LED lamps such as high efficiency and energy saving.
Starting from September, LED drive power supplies will be included in the scope of 3C compulsory certification.
The National Certification and Accreditation Administration, based on the implementation experience of pilot certification implementation rules, has comprehensively carried out the adjustment and revision of specific product compulsory certification implementation rules. Among them, LED drive power supplies have been included in the scope of 3C compulsory certification, which will be implemented from September 1.
Regional standards are not far behind in formulating regional standards
Since the national LED standards have not yet fully covered, many regions in the country have begun to develop or have formulated LED product standards applicable to industries in certain regions. At the end of March this year, an LED company in Jiangxi adopted the Guangdong LED standard and released new technologies and products of "de-illuminated LED standard optical components".
In terms of formulating standards, the Quanzhou LED industry is not far behind and started work in this area in June this year. Recently, the Optoelectronics Research Institute has established a standardization research room, and will work with the Quanzhou Standardization Association to jointly formulate the Quanzhou LED local quality standard system.
Lighting standards are becoming clearer and the market will show standardized development in the next three years
The lack of LED standards has been criticized and has had a negative impact on the healthy development of the industry. Many people in the industry believe that this is because the development of LED lighting is not mature enough and many aspects are developing. As the technology gradually improves and stabilizes, it is more timely to introduce corresponding standards at this time. In this regard, Ye Jianbo, general manager of Hangzhou Zhongheng Paiwei Power Supply Co., Ltd., said: "The development time of LED lights is relatively short, and there are technological breakthroughs every year. Many standards are applicable this year, but not next year. This is also an important reason for the lack of standards. In addition, different companies have different understandings of standards with different technologies, which also has an impact on the inconsistency of standards."
Regarding the standardization of the lighting industry, Song Dong, special assistant to the president of Jinko Electronics (Guangzhou) Co., Ltd., also shared his opinions. There was no standard in the LED lighting industry in the early stage because many opinions and practices in the industry were not uniform. But since 2007, LED standards have slowly been standardized, and now everyone in the field of LED lighting is following this rule. Only with standardized things can we develop and survive for a long time. After years of accumulation, a consensus has been reached in the industry, especially in the light source module. Many well-known brands are tending to standardize. In the future, small and medium-sized enterprises in the industry will also slowly standardize. Only standards can be popularized.
At the same time, Song Dong told reporters: "I personally think that the longest time is three years. All products will definitely become standardized. LED lighting has gone through almost 10 years from 2005 to now, and a lot of technology has been accumulated. We believe that within 2017, all products in the LED lighting industry will be standardized."
