Micro LED financing is active, and the industrial chain continues to expand
Since 2024, financing in the Micro LED field has been active. According to incomplete statistics from LEDinside, nearly 30 domestic and foreign companies have completed financing, including JBD, Stan Technology, Teyi Technology, Thunderbird Innovation, Rokid, etc. Entering 2025, the financing trend is still continuing, with companies such as VueReal, Hyperlume, Puzhao Materials, and Xunlin Technology successively receiving investment.
VueReal, a Canadian Micro LED technology developer, announced on January 30 the completion of a $40.5 million Series C financing. VueReal’s core technology, MicroSolid Printing, achieves high-yield, low-defect rate and high-performance Micro LED display production through an efficient mass transfer process.
On February 21, Micro LED light interconnection company Hyperlume completed a $12.5 million seed round of financing. Hyperlume is committed to developing a low-cost inter-chip optical interconnect technology suitable for short-distance communication within the AI computing cluster rack. This technology uses ultra-high-speed Micro LED as the light source.
Domestically, relevant companies are also actively promoting the industrialization of Micro LED technology.
In February, Puzhao Materials announced the completion of 740 million yuan in Series B financing. The company has built multiple sputtering uniform chrome plate production lines, covering a variety of specifications, and launched the 8.6-generation and below high-precision mask substrate project industrial park on December 26, 2024.
The project will meet the needs of various flat panel display mask substrates such as LTPS, LTPO, AMOLED, and Micro LED.
In March, Xunlin Technology completed tens of millions of yuan in Pre-A round financing. The company is able to manufacture large high-copper thick panels of 1350×1050mm, and has successfully implemented small-pitch high-definition and high-brightness large-size fully transparent glass screen applications. It has also reduced costs and improved the operability of Mini/Micro LED products through fine circuit design.
Micro LED technology breakthroughs and accelerated industrial implementation in 2025
In addition to financing, Micro LED technology has made significant progress in many fields in 2025. From technological breakthroughs to product innovation, from corporate cooperation to project implementation, to equipment upgrades, the Micro LED industry has experienced "acceleration".
In the technical field, the Peking University team and Chenxian Optoelectronics have made important progress in Micro LED-related research, with a yield rate as high as 99.99%; LC Square has achieved a breakthrough in Micro LED transfer printing technology, providing a new solution for the efficient production of Micro LED. In addition, teams from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and other universities jointly developed ultra-high-resolution Micro LED displays.
In terms of product innovation, Hongshi Intelligent released 1.2 million nits hybrid stacked full-color Micro LED; JBD launched Micro LED print head module; Goertek Optical released Micro LED AR full-color optical waveguide display module; Jingcheng Technology exhibited 136-inch M
icro LED display. Plessey and Meta jointly developed the world's brightest red Micro LED, and Samsung Display released a prototype of a Micro LED wearable display with a brightness of 4,000 nits.
In terms of corporate cooperation, Vecocel has reached strategic cooperation with Micro LED display manufacturers to jointly promote the commercial application of Micro LED technology. British Smartkem sells TRUFLEX semiconductor materials to Xinyuanji Semiconductor, and the two parties cooperate to develop Micro LED backlight technology. Fucai joins hands with Nitron to expand Micro LED production and expand into the TV and automotive markets.
In terms of project implementation, Konka's MLED advanced manufacturing center and future display terminal product projects were successfully signed and landed in Changzhi High-tech Zone; the West Lake Yanshan Micro LED chip project was successfully signed in Zhejiang; in addition, Suzhou Leiming Laser Technology Co., Ltd.'s project was signed in Neijiang, Sichuan, and its products are used in Micro LED chip manufacturing and other related processing fields.
In terms of equipment upgrades, Yiben Technology delivers Micro in batches
LED mass testing equipment, Inno Laser once again delivered key Micro LED equipment, and Zhixinda Micro LED mass transfer side magnetron sputtering film forming machine successfully rolled off the production line. The delivery and successful rolling off of these equipment provided more efficient and precise technical support for the production of Micro LED.
In addition, Apple is also laying out Micro LED technology. The US Patent and Trademark Office recently officially approved an important Apple patent, which aims to add a new side-strap display to its VisionPro smart glasses or similar head-mounted displays. Components may use advanced display technologies such as Micro LED to improve display effects and reduce energy consumption.
In the automotive field, the electric car AFEELA 1, a collaboration between AU Optronics and Sony Honda, will be launched in the United States in the second half of next year. It will be the first car on the market equipped with a Micro LED screen.
Summary
What will happen to the Micro LED industry in 2025 in terms of financing, technological breakthroughs, product innovation, corporate cooperation, and project implementation?
Significant progress has been made in ground and equipment upgrades. As the demand for high-performance Micro LED technology continues to grow in markets such as AR/VR, automotive displays, TVs, and large-size direct displays, more companies have obtained financing and accelerated technology layout, promoting the further maturity of the industry chain.
At the recent TrendForce New Display Industry Seminar, TrendForce analysts pointed out that automotive and near-eye displays are the next application tracks for glass-based and silicon-based Micro LEDs. The former is expected to contribute more than US$100 million in output value to chips in 2028, and the latter is expected to have a penetration rate of 50% in all AR glasses in the medium and long term.
Among them, in the field of AR glasses, according to the "2024 Near-Eye Display Market Trends and Technology Analysis" report published by TrendForce, the market size of AR devices is expected to reach 25.5 million units by 2030, and Micro LED's market share is expected to increase to 44%. Therefore, the rapid development of AR smart glasses will further drive the demand for Micro LED technology.
< br> In the future, the innovation and commercial application of Micro LED technology will continue to deepen, not only strengthening its competitiveness in the display field, but also bringing broader development opportunities to related industries.
