According to Korean media reports on May 5, Samsung Electronics is making phased adjustments to its Micro LED TV manufacturing business, with the overall direction focusing more on the balance between profitability and product popularity. Since the manufacturing process of Micro LED is still relatively complex and the cost is high, the company is optimizing the layout of related products based on the market environment and operating efficiency.
It is generally believed in the Korean industry that Samsung Display (VD) Division’s adjustment to the Micro LED TV business means that its strategy is gradually shifting from high-end customized products to a display technology path with greater scale potential. In previous internal operating evaluations, this business was also regarded as one of the directions that needs continuous optimization.
At the same time, Samsung has been promoting the application exploration of Micro RGB technology since last year, using RGB Micro LED in LCD TV backlight solutions to form a new product form - Micro RGB TV. According to industry interpretation, this direction will help expand the broader consumer market while controlling costs, and provide a new support path for product structure adjustment.
Some Korean display industry experts said that in the short term, Samsung will still maintain Micro LED TV-related technology reserves, but in the long-term trend, under the influence of factors such as cost and market acceptance, resources may be tilted more toward application areas with scale advantages, such as emerging display scenarios such as wearable devices and AR/VR terminals.
In terms of product progress, Samsung released the world's first 130-inch Micro RGB smart display (R95H) at CES 2026. In April this year, Samsung further launched the 2026 Micro RGB TV series, covering two product lines, R95H and R85H, with sizes ranging from 55 inches to 115 inches.
In addition, foreign media reported that Samsung plans to launch a basic version of AI glasses in 2026, focusing on lightweight design (about 50 grams) and not equipped with Micro LED display modules. The higher-end version of AR glasses, codenamed Haean, will be equipped with a Micro LED display to provide stronger visual enhancement capabilities, but is expected to be launched as soon as 2027 for high-end AR application scenarios.
