TCL Technology and Leyard reveal the latest progress in MicroLED AR field

In application scenarios such as AR glasses, Micro LED technology is highly anticipated, and many manufacturers are accelerating their deployment and promoting the gradual maturity of the technology. Recently, TCL Technology and Leyard have successively released the latest progress in the field of Micro LED AR.

TCL CSOT is advancing the mass production process of silicon-based Micro LED

On May 6, TCL Technology stated on the investor relations platform that the company's Xinying Display has completed the construction of a pilot line. TCL CSOT has monochrome display technology capabilities in the field of silicon-based Micro LED and is promoting mass production. At the same time, it is increasing the development of full-color technology and actively cooperating with customers on AR glasses applications.

It is reported that in December 2020, TCL China Star Optoelectronics and Quanzhou Sanan jointly established Xinying Display, focusing on the research on the massive transfer, bonding, detection and repair technology required for TFT-driven back Micro LED, and committed to realizing the large-scale production of Micro LED displays.

In October 2024, Xinying Display Micro LED pilot line was completed and is expected to achieve small batch trial production in 2025. The project was initially approved in July 2021. It plans to develop 1,056 pieces of G4.5 generation Micro LED displays per year, with a total investment of 300 million yuan. In March 2024, the project was changed to Micro LED research and development based on G2.5 generation TFT substrate, and the capital was increased by 5 million yuan.

Leyard cooperates to launch AR glasses products based on monochromatic Micro LED light engines

Leyard stated on the interactive platform on May 6 that in terms of AR glasses, it mainly cooperated with Saphlux to launch AR glasses products based on monochrome Micro LED light engines, and jointly developed and marketed them with Saphlux through equity participation. The product needs to undergo internal sales testing before being launched on the market, and the time and method of launch are to be determined.

It is reported that Leyard currently has three major business segments: LED intelligent display, cultural tourism night tour, AI and spatial computing. In terms of smart display, the company has listed Micro LED as a strategic focus.
In November 2024, Leyard built and put into production the first fully self-developed substrate-less Micro LED production line at Wuxi Lijing Factory, with an initial production capacity of 1,200kk per month. At present, the production expansion plan is progressing steadily and is expected to reach production in the third quarter.

With the gradual improvement of the mass production line, Leyard recently released the "New Generation Black Diamond (Hi-Micro)" technology and new products, which use substrate-less Micro LED chips with a short side less than 30μm. The display effect is significantly improved, and it is adapted to new technologies such as AM drivers and glass substrates to meet the needs of commercial and high-end households.
