MLED technology sinking and ecological reconstruction

Judging from the project progress from 2025 to early 2026, LED companies are continuing to expand high-end LED display technology production capacity through intensive capital investment. Among the statistical projects, more than half of them focus on Mini/Micro LED technology. The core driving force comes from the growth of the high-end display market and the competition for technological dominance in all aspects of the industry chain.

In the field of consumer terminals, favorable policies and technology sinking have promoted the rapid popularity of Mini LED. The Chinese market's subsidies for first-class energy-consuming products will significantly increase the market recognition of Mini LED backlight TVs in 2026. RGB Mini LED technology emits light independently through the three primary colors of red, green, and blue, enabling more precise brightness and color control.

According to TrendForce’s TV shipment survey, the subsidy policy in the Chinese market will continue to be favorable in 2026, and the conditions will be limited to first-class energy-consuming products, which will benefit Mini LED models. Leading brands are also demonstrating their RGB TV technology at CES 2026, and have lowered the product size to a more user-friendly 55-75 inches, which is a strong sense of competition. Based on this, TrendForce Consulting has revised up its forecast for Mini LED TV penetration in 2026 to 10%, with shipments heading towards 20 million units.

The vehicle-mounted display track is also showing a rapid development trend. According to TrendForce analysis, Xiaomi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai-Kia Motors, BAIC Motor, Great Wall Motors, and Sony are expected to launch Mini LED displays from 2025 to 2029. At the same time, Mini LED technology is also introduced into the panoramic head-up display and holographic head-up display.

In addition, according to TrendForce’s analysis, Micro LED has the characteristics of high brightness, high contrast, and high transparency. It can be combined with transparent displays and car windows, and can also be used in the form of AR-HUD or P-HUD to meet the integration of virtual and real information for drivers and passengers in automotive scenarios, providing technical support for its applications in smart cockpits and advanced HUDs.

In terms of micro-display technology, TrendForce predicts that global shipments of Micro LED AR glasses will reach 21 million units in 2030, and the penetration rate of Micro LED technology in the overall AR glasses will reach 65%. This also means that Micro LED has broad application prospects in the field of AR glasses and will promote the commercialization of more smart glasses products.

The above-mentioned demand-side growth has prompted the supply-side to accelerate its layout. Panel manufacturers such as BOE, TCL CSOT, and Shenzhen Tianma have invested in upstream chips and packaging to build a full industry chain layout from wafer to terminal, and gradually launched competition in high-end LED display technology.

At the same time, China Microelectronics has laid out a MOCVD equipment base, Vogel Optoelectronics has achieved breakthroughs in the field of glass-based materials, and high-end intelligent equipment bases such as Xinyichang have been put into production, improving the automation support for die bonding and packaging. The entire industry is promoting high-end LED display technology towards full commercialization through capital investment and industry chain collaboration.
