The market of display industry is huge. In the past, the Japanese, Taiwan and South Korean manufacturers have invested a lot of capital and R & D resources. In recent years, Chinese mainland panel makers have joined the war and invested a lot of capital expenditure in the production line of the latest generation. However, most of the display industry in the past was led by LCD. With the rise of OLED technology, many manufacturers jumped into the OLED war. However, with the advent of Micro LED technology, LED has become a self luminous display through miniaturization and massive transfer technology. This innovative technology has attracted the attention of many manufacturers, investing a lot of R & D resources and starting to acquire new technologies with special technology. Since Micro LED technology can fill the specifications that LCD or OLED display can't achieve, it will gradually introduce Micro LED technology into the AR micro projection device, vehicle HUD projection application and even large display Kanban for higher luminance requirements.

Unlike traditional LED backlight, Mini LED chips are smaller in size and match the technology of direct down backlight and area lighting. Therefore, the consumption of LED wafers will increase exponentially and become an important application of supporting demand.

However, the cost structure of Mini LED backlight is still too high for the mainstream display products in the near future, and the factors such as heat dissipation and power consumption remain to be solved. So the market that can be cut in the future is still dominated by consumer high-order products. For example, the electric pen pen and high-order desktop screen, or high-order TV and other products. According to LEDinside Research Report data, Mini LED display will be applied to TV, mobile phone, vehicle display, digital display (commercial advertising and display), and the estimated market size in 2025 is US $1 billion 70 million. This study analyzed thousands of patents, and the main results were as follows: global technology factories, research institutes, display manufacturers, LED manufacturers, semiconductor companies and start-ups participated in and proposed the layout of Micro-LED patents. For example, Sony, APPLE/Luxvue, ITRI and Illinois universities had some earlier patent layouts. Playnitride Mikro Mesa, a new startup, has also proposed patents for many technology solutions. Massive transfer technology is the focus of the patent layout of the major plants currently, concentrating on electrostatic adsorption, van der Waals transfer, fluid assembly, laser peeling, electromagnetic force / magnetic force, adhesion layer and vacuum adsorption. There are still many patent layout spaces for epitaxial and chip, full color, power drive, backplane and detection and repair technology. The small spacing LED display has been widely concerned by the industry since its appearance and maintained a high annual growth rate. Its growth rate is expected to be about 40% in 2018. The development path of small spacing LED display has also developed from the previous single SMD surface paste to the technology of positive COB, Mini LED and Micro LED. In terms of technology, relative to SMD, positive COB has excellent protective advantages, but the positive welding line will occupy a certain space and can not be applied in the LED display with smaller spacing. And a large number of welding lines also reduce the reliability of the display to a certain extent. Mini LED display makes up for this defect and is also luminous. Micro LED can greatly reduce the cost of LED chips in theory, but it still needs to break through in the heavy process. Under the current technological conditions, the supersafe technology provides the most economical and applicable solution for P1.0 or above products. With the development and maturity of Mini LED and Micro LED technology, P1.0 will be the mainstream market of the two.

According to the latest "new display technology cost" report of WitsView, as MiniLED's LCD backlight structure is similar to the LED backlight structure of the existing LCD display, it has not changed much in design, so it is also highly expected by manufacturers, hoping it can become a transition product before mass production. But whether it's consumer electronics such as cell phones or televisions, MiniLED will directly face competition from OLED. In the short term, the high price IT has more opportunities than the vehicle display market.

The exclusive supply of large size OLED panels has not changed for the time being. Although the expansion rate is relatively slow, it will continue to encroach on the share of LCD TV in the high-end market. LGD As for the small size OLED, China's capacity accession and the folding OLED commercialization push up the penetration rate of the intelligent machine market. It is estimated that penetration in 2021 will reach nearly 50%.

WitsView predicts that the global penetration of HDTV will reach 45.3% in 2018, 8.2 percentage points higher than that in 2017. The main reason for the growth is that the panel manufacturers have phased out the full HD high-dimensional products of 55 inches or more, and have applied 4K technology in medium size, such as 50 inches and 43 inches.

As the ultra-high definition market is weakening, its penetration growth rate will slow down. The future trend of brand and panel makers will definitely upgrade to 8K products. However, the key factors for the rapid growth of 8K penetration will depend on how the supply chain can rapidly promote 8K and how to properly price 8K (the current price of 8K TV is too high). The main starting size of 8K may be withdrawn from 65 inches to 75 inches. WitsView believes that 8K penetration rate prediction will be far less than 4K. Panel supply, brand attitude, pricing strategy, product positioning and content presentation are all challenges that will be encountered on the road to popularization. It is estimated that only 10% of the penetration level will be exceeded until 2022.
