2025 China Retail Expo: What are the new highlights of commercial lighting focusing on supermarket applications?

The 25th China Retail Expo was held at Shenzhen Baoan International Convention and Exhibition Center from May 8th to 10th. The commercial lighting section was exhibited in Equipment Hall 8, bringing together many well-known companies in the industry. LEDinside visited and found that Debon's commercial lighting brands Teyoushi, Zhimoji, Fuxing Lighting, Tianyi Lighting, Weizhi Lighting and Green Lighting have become the main exhibitors of this exhibition, each displaying the latest products and technologies in the field of commercial and supermarket lighting.

In recent years, the rapid rise of online supermarkets has had a huge impact on offline physical supermarkets. Customer traffic has declined, and traditional supermarket retail owners are facing unprecedented challenges.

However, with the change in consumption concepts, shopping has increasingly evolved into a leisure and experience activity. As a result, offline supermarkets have been given more social and exploratory functions, becoming a space for consumers to seek novel experiences. Faced with this trend, a profound change from the inside out is becoming increasingly urgent for offline merchants and supermarkets.

In recent observations of industry exhibitions, LEDinside found that in the field of supermarket product display and retail lighting solutions, energy saving, improving the realism and freshness of products (especially fresh food), and creating a comfortable shopping atmosphere have become the core demands of supermarket lighting design. At the same time, the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technology is also opening up new application scenarios for traditional supermarket lighting products, stimulating their huge potential for intelligent upgrades.

Energy saving and freshness are the focus of supermarket lighting solutions

In addition to improving light efficiency and optimizing light distribution design to achieve energy saving and better visual effects, the products exhibited by various supermarket lighting brand manufacturers at the exhibition also use special spectrum to enhance the attractiveness of fresh products, such as Teyoushi Lighting, Tianyi Lighting and Weiye Lighting.

At the booth of Teyoushi Lighting, a commercial lighting brand owned by Debon, LEDinside found that two new products were highlighted, one of which was the King Kong 2 pro linear spotlight. According to the exhibition staff, it is an upgraded version of the King Kong series that will be launched in 2025, with a power range of 30-40W, a double-sided 8-head design and a 4000K color temperature.

Compared with the old version, the main upgrade points include: 1) The beam angle is expanded from 60° to 90°, significantly increasing the illumination area; 2) The light efficiency is increased to 115 lm/W, and the color rendering index CRI reaches 90; 3) The structural design is optimized, and the lamp body supports ±30° flexible adjustment (one side can be adjusted internally and externally, and both sides can be illuminated in the same direction) to better meet the facade lighting needs of different shelves and scenes.

This lamp uses the same party's EMC 7070 LED light source solution. According to LEDinside’s on-site understanding, the pre-sale price of new products is RMB 150-200 per lamp, which is relatively high. However, products with high brightness and light efficiency can reduce the number of lamps installed, which not only saves electricity costs, but also reduces overall operation and installation costs.

Another key display new product is the sky shelf lamp, which adopts a wide-area soft light design to effectively reduce glare and aims to create a natural and comfortable light environment. It has the ability to rotate 90° vertically and 355° horizontally, and has an ultra-wide lighting angle. It is said that the coverage area of a single light can be increased by 2 times. More importantly, this solution can reduce the consumption of lamps by about 60% compared with traditional rail spotlights, while also reducing heat dissipation and corresponding air-conditioning energy consumption, with outstanding energy saving performance.

Tianyi Lighting, on-site personnel introduced to LEDinside that it mainly focuses on large department stores and supermarkets. This time it focused on displaying LED track spotlights and LED linear spotlights suitable for shelf areas, and launched a special spectrum lighting solution for the fresh food area.

In the booth, in the left area of the shelf area (as shown in the picture below), LED track spotlights focus on low-power products to achieve energy-saving effects. It is understood that 24W power can achieve 30W brightness, and the light source uses CREE LED COB products. The goods in the container can be highlighted in the display shelf area. On the right side, there is a 10-head LED linear spotlight with double-sided lighting, with a power of 2*32W, a color temperature of 4000K, and a 24° beam angle to achieve a wider range of lighting.

In the fresh food area, track spotlights using customized COB LED light sources can present specific different light colors according to different food categories such as fresh fruits and vegetables, meat and poultry, and highly restore the true colors of the products.

Weizhi Lighting, focusing on the KA lighting application field of supermarkets, collaborated with Youdu Lighting to jointly exhibit lighting products for supermarkets, focusing on LED track lights with a power of 42W, CRI color rendering index of 90, color temperature of 4000K, and beam angle of 26*68°.

The development of AI technology injects new vitality into supermarket lighting

At this exhibition, LEDinside observed the practical application of AI technology in supermarket lighting. Zhimoji and Fuxing Lighting respectively displayed their own AI lighting products.

Zhimoji, an AI lighting full-scenario intelligent solution provider, focuses on displaying chameleon rail lights and panlong shelf lights at this exhibition. In the fresh food area, dual-sensor track spotlights are displayed, with a power of 30W and a domestically customized RGBW-COB LED mixed light source. The color rendering index is as high as 95 and the color temperature can be adjusted within the range of 2700-6500K.

According to LEDinside, the lamp contains two sensor probes, one of which is used to identify the product variety and color, and can automatically distribute light and color matching according to the item. The other one is a human body recognition sensor, which can recognize the light when a person is coming and the light will be on when a person is leaving.

In addition, this product is also equipped with a camera to realize data statistics function, which can count the traffic data of people paying attention to the product and the length of stay. Due to the powerful functions of the product, the cost of production is naturally high. The on-site salesperson revealed that the lamp is currently priced at RMB 300 per lamp. Zhimoji said that it is mainly targeted at the fresh food area where supermarkets account for 20%-30%.

Fuxing Lighting displayed its "AI Smart Dome" rail spotlights for supermarkets. The lamp has a power of 30W and is equipped with a product identification sensor. The light source part uses integrated COB LED, with CRI exceeding 95. The dimming mode is PWM+CC, which can achieve 1%-100% brightness adjustment and can match different light color effects according to different products. Similarly, this product is also equipped with a camera to capture store data and conduct customer flow analysis.

LEDinside has observed that the rapid development of AI technology has brought unprecedented opportunities to the LED lighting industry, and the Chinese market is leading innovation. Innovative technologies are stimulating new vitality in the LED lighting industry, and AI is at the core of this change.

It can be seen that AI applications have extended from digital workflows to physical products. China is an important driving force in this technological revolution, bringing about changes at an alarming speed. China's lighting industry already has AI-related cutting-edge applications and is adjusting with the pace of AI change. (Text: Liu Lingli, TrendForce senior analyst)
