It was learned from the BOE Technology Salon that BOE has launched diversified high-end technology products such as P0.9 glass-based Mini LED direct display, 75-inch and 86-inch 8K Mini LED, and 34-inch glass-based Mini LED e-sports displays in the MLED field, and is the first to achieve mass production and commercial use of glass-based Mini LED products. This is the first company in China and the first in the world to achieve mass production and commercial use of glass-based Mini direct displays.

As early as July last year, BOE launched the glass-based P0.9 Mini direct display product at the Beijing infocomm exhibition, which attracted a lot of attention at the time. Because most companies were studying PCB board Mini direct display products at that time, it was the first time that products using glass substrates appeared at the exhibition.
Glass-based Mini/Mico LED is also called COG (Chip on Glass)), which is an LED display unit packaging technology in which LED light-emitting crystals are directly packaged on a TFT glass substrate (or TFT resin substrate). There are three main features of this technology: 1. LED crystal particles are directly packaged, which is a massive operation at the sub-wafer level; 2. The backplane circuit uses new products such as TFT glass substrates to replace traditional PCB circuit boards; 3. The working mode of LED crystal particles is AM active drive rather than traditional PM passive drive.
The material and process characteristics of the glass substrate determine its high stability, high flatness, no pure black, no seams, and no risk of lights falling out. It has a longer service life, which is a leapfrog improvement compared to PCB substrates. AM active drive is used to achieve perfect fitting of the full grayscale Gamma curve. The product display screen transition is very uniform, especially in low grayscale. Even in extremely dark scenes, subtle brightness changes can still be detected by the naked eye without flickering. As for the PM driver, due to the limitation of the driving method, there will be an obvious transition in the low grayscale state, and the picture will be more abrupt.
Because of these advantages, some Japanese and Korean companies are working on mass production of COG Mini/Mico LED. However, currently only BOE's subsidiary BOE Crystal Core Technology has achieved mass production and commercial use of this technology. Since last year, BOE Crystal Core Technology has successively launched a variety of products.
The first 4K COG display product was successfully delivered
On December 27, 2021, BOE Crystal Core Technology’s first glass-based AM P0.9 direct display 4K product was successfully delivered. According to BOE Jingxin Technology, the 4K glass-based product will be completed in a multi-functional conference room. With the advancement of technology, more and more companies are integrating high-definition large conference screens with more information-based functions into conference scenes. BOE's glass-based MLED display products have a brightness of up to 1,000 nits in terms of image quality, which greatly protects human eyes, achieves healthy eye protection, and is more in line with the use needs of conference scenes. In terms of performance, the size, heat resistance, moisture resistance, etc. of the glass base are significantly better than those of the PCB base. In addition, its surface treatment can also be customized according to the needs of different users. Multiple advantages make glass-based products the first choice for more LED buyers.
In a recent exclusive interview with media reporters, Zhang Zhaohong, chairman of BOE's MLED business, said that in October 2020, BOE established an MLED (Micro LED, Mini LED) business department to officially launch efforts in the market and seize industry opportunities. BOE MLED, which uses active glass-based technology, will achieve mass production in May 2021, making it the first company in the world to achieve mass production.
Working with Skyworth to launch the world's first MLED TV applying active glass-based technology
On September 23, 2021, "Salute to Reality" Skyworth TV's 2021 autumn new product launch conference was held in Beijing. At this conference, BOE (BOE) and Skyworth TV took the lead in launching the world's first Mini LED TV using active glass-based technology - Skyworth Mingli Screen SmartMiniLED TV Q72, realizing Mini The brand-new leap in LED TV picture quality accelerates the evolution of the Mini LED market to high-end through technological iteration.
It is understood that Q72 integrates 20,736 lamp beads and 2,304 physical partitions. Each partition can achieve 4,096 step changes and an ultimate brightness of 1,500 nits. Compared with traditional edge-type backlights, the brightness and contrast have been significantly improved, with more partitions and better light control. It is refined and has better image quality stability for long-term use; it also uses active constant current drive, which compared with traditional passive drive, can quickly keep the display brightness consistent with the instantaneous brightness. The flicker frequency has reached a range that cannot be seen by the human eye. The screen is flicker-free, which can ensure the health of human eyes and reduce eye fatigue.
According to BOE, BOE has currently mass-produced and shipped a number of MLED products and has received orders from leading customers. Some products have received positive feedback from the market, such as the 34-inch Mini LED gaming monitor launched in the first half of this year.
Recently, BOE accepted a survey from 69 institutions and stated that in the first half of 2022, the company's MLED business has grown significantly. In terms of revenue, revenue increased by 50% year-on-year; in terms of product release, the 86-inch glass-based active driver Mini LED product won the "Best Display Component of the Year Award" at the 2022 International Display Week. The company's MLED business has created a Mini/Micro LED ecological group with active driving, COG as the core, and COB/SMD collaborative development. It can provide Mini/Micro LED products and solutions of different processes, types and costs according to customer needs. In the future, the company will continue to make efforts in MLED, give full play to the company's advantages in the semiconductor display field, and continue to increase market share.
As one of the world's largest LCD panel companies, BOE has "innate advantages" in the field of COG glass substrates whether it is developing backlight or direct display Mini/Micro LED technology, so it is bound to become an industry leader in the future. Let's wait and see.
