Big news: The world's first Mini LED commercial display group standard is officially released!

On May 27, 2020, the group standard reading meeting of the "General Technical Specifications for Mini LED Commercial Displays" was successfully held, marking the official release of the world's first Mini LED commercial display group standard!

It is reported that Mini LED display products have begun to be used in ultra-large-screen high-definition displays, such as surveillance and command, high-definition studios, high-end cinemas, office displays, virtual reality and other commercial fields. However, the Mini LED industry still has problems such as the lack of unified standards, the industrial chain has not yet been fully integrated, and the acceleration of industrialization is urgently needed. The first release of this standard will play a role in promoting Chinese companies to seize the opportunity of global Mini LED display technology.

The standard was proposed by the Shenzhen Lighting and Display Engineering Industry Association, and led by 56 units including Alto, TCL Huaxing, Absen, Jufei, Ledman, Unilumin, Leyard, Konka, Skyworth, Hisense, Qianli Jucai, Huacan, Mulinsen, Nationstar, Ruifeng, Hongli, Samsung, Osram, Cree, etc., based on the technological development of the global display industry, combined with my country's Mini The characteristics of enterprises in the LED industry chain took half a year to compile through extensive research and 15 iterations of revision and discussion.

The "General Technical Specifications for Mini LED Commercial Displays" defines for the first time what "Mini LED" is: "Mini LED" refers to LED devices with a chip size between 50-200μm.

The standard states that a "Mini LED display module" is a unit composed of a Mini LED pixel array and a drive circuit with a pixel center spacing of 0.3-1.5mm.

The standard considers that "Mini LED commercial display" is a Mini LED display with smaller pixel pitch, high definition, high reliability, high interface compatibility and easy installation and maintenance.

Jiang Fengyi

As the head of the review expert group for the standard, Academician Jiang Fengyi of the Chinese Academy of Sciences said that the release of the Mini LED commercial display group standard is a matter of extraordinary significance and will play an important role in the development of new domestic and even international display technologies, new products, and new formats. It is not only conducive to technological innovation, but also conducive to product manufacturing and application promotion, and is of great practical significance.

Tang Guoqing

Tang Guoqing, director of the Semi-Specialized Committee of the China Illuminating Society, said that future competition in the display field will tend to be high-tech, high-level, and cost-effective. For the Mini LED industry, its development needs to rely on talents, equipment, marketing, regulations first and standard guidance. He said that the release of the group standards will help lead the scientific and orderly development and competition of the industry.

Wu Zhenzhi

Wu Zhenzhi, director of Alto Electronics Intelligent Video Technology Research Institute, one of the standard editing units, read out the standard. It said that recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology organized a video conference to promote the development of the ultra-high-definition video industry. It will work with the "Ministry (bureau), provinces and cities to jointly promote the development of ultra-high-definition video industry work plan)" task deployment issued by the State Administration of Radio and Television, and jointly promote the innovative development of the ultra-high-definition video industry. It is expected that by 2022, the overall scale of my country's ultra-high-definition video industry will exceed 4 trillion yuan, and Mini LED industry chain companies will benefit extensively.

Qiao Mingsheng

Qiao Mingsheng, technical director of the Display R&D Department of Hisense Electronic Information Group R&D Center, said that the release of the group standards will be of great help in standardizing Mini LED technology routes, product measurement methods, and clarifying product concepts.

Huang Weidong

Huang Weidong, secretary-general of the Health Branch of the China Visual Association and senior engineer at CSOT, believes that this is an appropriate standard released at the right time. He said that currently, Mini LED is receiving more and more attention. The formulation of this standard has overcome many difficulties and will surely be able to better guide and serve the industry.

Xu Dong

Xu Dong, honorary director of the Standards and Testing Committee of the Shenzhen Lighting and Display Engineering Industry Association, said that the release of group standards is only the first step in a series of work. In the future, the Standardization Committee will actively promote the "group standards" to allow more companies to familiarize themselves with and apply them.

It is reported that this standard provides a scientific basis for the research and development, production, sales and installation of industrial chain enterprises, and provides a reference for scientific research institutions, academic units, construction units, design units, construction supervision and operation management personnel. Zeng Xiaolan, president of the Shenzhen Lighting and Display Engineering Industry Association, revealed that the association will make every effort to launch standard construction work in fields such as deep ultraviolet LED and landscape lighting.

It is understood that the formulation of this standard has also received guidance and support from scientific research institutions and experts such as China Semiconductor Lighting/LED Industry and Application Alliance, China Advertising Association Outdoor Advertising Branch, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangdong Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Institute, Beijing University of Technology, TCL Semiconductor Light Source Research Institute, Shenzhen University of Technology, Shenzhen University, Tsinghua University Shenzhen Graduate School, Southern University of Science and Technology, Shenzhen Institute of Standards and Technology, Shenzhen Optoelectronics Inspection and other scientific research institutions and experts.
