Chongmao Technology, a subsidiary of Fairchild Semiconductor, won the Invention and Creation Award

Chongmao Technology Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fairchild Semiconductor, won two invention and creation awards in Taiwan. Chongmao Technology's products are specifically targeted at AC/DC offline power conversion applications in the global market.
The invention creation award is divided into three categories: Best Contribution Award, Best Patented Invention Award and Best Patented Design Award. Chongmao Technology not only won the Best Contribution Award, but its PWM controller with off-cycle adjustment function also won a silver medal in the Best Patented Invention category. This invention and creation award was established in 1992 by the Intellectual Property Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Taiwan to encourage local companies to focus on invention and innovation. This year, there are more than 300 products participating.
Yang Dayong, vice president of power conversion products at Fairchild Semiconductor, said: "Chongmao Technology's products are widely used in power supplies and converters for computer systems, LCDs, home appliances, mobile devices and lighting applications. As of March 2007, Chongmao Technology has obtained more than 100 patents around the world, including 62 US patents and 30 local patents. We were awarded these important awards for our high level of expertise and technology. "
We are very proud that the selection panel commented on our products as 'very practical and environmentally friendly'. They also pointed out that these products have excellent energy-saving advantages and are easy to use, making them very suitable for household appliances. "
Chongmao Technology’s PWM controller, which won the Silver Award for Best Patented Invention, has an off-time modulation function and is specially designed to reduce standby power consumption. This innovative feature has been included in many of Chongmao Technology's devices, including the SG584X and SG69XX series of products. This invention saves energy by increasing the switching period under light load and zero load conditions. Another feature is that the controller can maintain a constant maximum output current under heavy load conditions, preventing magnetic components (inductors, transformers, etc.) from reaching saturation.
Two-thirds of the world's power management IC market is located in Asia, and 6 of the world's top 10 power supply OEMs are in Taiwan. According to statistics, the AC/DC offline power conversion market, including isolated PWM controllers, PFC controllers and AC/DC offline regulators, exceeded US$1.5 billion in 2005. Fairchild Semiconductor has become a leader in this rapidly growing field through its acquisition of Chongmao Technology.
