Corelle (Corning Incorporated) announced the day before, LCD glass substrate plant which is located in Taiwan station has officially made all operating license, will start the supply of active matrix type LCD glass substrate. Over the past few months, Corelle has been working closely with its customers in Taiwan to prepare for the glass substrate shipments in taichung.
Taichung glass factory Corelle in July 2004 started the construction, is expected to be held at the opening ceremony on January 2006. Recently, Corelle's board of directors has approved additional capital expenditure plan, an increase of $425 million investment in Taichung plant expansion project third. So far, the total investment in Taichung plant has been as high as $1 billion 500 million. The third phase expansion project is expected to be between 2006 and 2007.
According to reports, Taichung Corelle factory main production of the 5.5 generation, sixth generation and the 7.5 generation and the larger size of the glass substrate, in order to meet the future demand for desktop monitors and new LCD tv.
Corelle general manager of the Ministry of science and technology Ji Kebin (James P. Clappin) said: "the notebook computer and desktop computer monitors mobile communications equipment and the rapid spread of the LCD TV is to promote the global LCD industry is booming. Corelle Taichung plant will enable Corelle to maintain the pace of development, to meet customer demand for large-size LCD glass substrate."
Corelle Taiwan general manager You Weide (Eugene A. Verdon glass company) said: "the main impetus for the growth of the global LCD industry is expected to focus on Taiwan. So Corelle naturally choose to continue to expand production capacity in Taiwan. Corelle will continue to focus on the current primary goal of fulfilling the obligations of supplying agreements with its customers in Taiwan to provide a stable high-quality glass substrate to meet customer needs."
