"Emergence" was created by Sean Orlando. It is a geometric tree-shaped art installation based on grid parametric design. The tree-trunk-shaped base of the installation houses a circular seating area, and the circular ceiling stretching above is creatively shaped. It looks like a striking artistic beacon when viewed from the nearby ferry terminal channel, while also projecting carefully designed light and shadow patterns on the surrounding landscape. After dark, the installation will be illuminated by LED lights. This portal canopy sculpture features a modern, geometric design that reflects the enterprising spirit of the creative district surrounding Edmonds.
This project aims to enhance community exploration and public participation, and transform an important pedestrian thoroughfare into a creative space for immersive experience. The work not only fits the unique cultural background of the Anwei Park area, but also takes into account the diverse needs of community residents and tourists who live and pass by here. The park is adjacent to the Puget Sound shoreline, railroad tracks, and the Washington State Ferry Terminal Channel, and serves as a gateway landmark to Edmonds' downtown Creative District. As such, the artwork draws inspiration from local ecosystems, the built environment, and the human architecture that shapes people's lived experiences.
