Experts warned: office lighting is not suitable for white desk.

A senior official from a leading eye charity warned that white collar workers should not sit at a white desk under modern office lighting.

Keith Gordon, research vice-president of the National Association of blind people in Canada, said it would be prudent to stay away from white desks and reduce harm caused by excessive exposure to blue light.

The effect of the white surface is similar to that created by the sun shining on the snow to the skier.

"White desk will reflect anything that comes out of the computer, so you get a double blow. If you sit on a white table and have a fluorescent lamp, it will reflect from your desk to your eyes. I suggest people use dark black desks. "

"Usually, because the lighting itself does not have much worry, people spend hours watching these screens, so there is a concern that if you spend a day watching computer monitors, with so much light, it will be a long-term damage to the eyes."

However, Keith Gordon stressed that it is worth noting that whether there is a direct link between long-term exposure to blue light and human retinal damage has not been fully substantiated.

Gordon recommends that office workers use software to reduce exposure to Blu ray, such as free f.lux filter applications, which can be installed in computers and mobile devices to adjust the light emitted according to the time of day. In addition, many computers and smart phones now have blue light reduction mode.

Employees can adjust the blue light level of the screen by reducing the brightness of the screen or changing the contrast by switching to the black bottom white character.

Gordon says safety managers can limit the amount of blue light generated by overhead lighting. He urged facilities managers to avoid installing cold white or blue white fluorescent tubes, and to designate coatings to produce less blue light and give out warm white light. He also suggested that the flashing fluorescent tube should be replaced quickly because the faulty lamp would emit more blue light. (Editor: LED net James)
