GE lighting creates Alexa voice assistant with ring LED lamp

In 2015, Amazon opened the "Alexa voice service" to third party hardware manufacturers, providing free API, allowing developers to add Alexa voice services on their devices. Recently, GE lighting company has displayed a ring LED lamp with built-in Alexa voice assistant.

Despite its stylish fashion, GE lighting does not give it a fancy name, but simply classifies it into a GEC series LED lamp. The function of the LED lamp is similar to that of Amazon's Echo device, with built-in microphone for listening to user's voice commands and speakers for answering. The voice receiving and answering function of the LED lamp will be online at any time. Users do not need to toggle the switch to activate the voice function. You can call the voice service only if you call a Alexa.

Like the Alexa on Amazon Echo, the Alexa voice assistant of the LED lamp can also provide wake-up function for users, and also enable it to read news, check weather, jokes and play music. Of course, users can also use Alexa to control some Alexa compatible smart home devices.

GE currently shows this LED lamp is only a prototype, but it is said that it will not differ from the final mass production version. The GE plan will be shipped in the second quarter of 2017.
