Goldeneye company called LED side lighting system (Side Emitting Illumination Systems Incorporating Light Emitting Diodes) "the new LED backlight module (BLU) technology to obtain the Patent Office of the U.S. Department of Commerce certification, patent No. 7293908, this technology can make the screen brighter and more efficient.
Goldeneye's patented BLU technology core is to reduce the heat sink, packaging and waveguide level consumption. The use of reflective LED can increase the color mixing, polarization cycle and light efficiency, while reducing the packaging and optical waveguide loss. The optical cycle structure can effectively change the direction of the side light without the use of expensive large size imaging and non imaging optical elements.
The patent is characterized by the use of reflectance of more than 40% of the reflective LED, LED reflection helps to increase the brightness, add an optical waveguide layer, the brightness can also be significantly increased.
Goldeneye BLU technology high power LED device integrated waveguide layer thickness less than 250 microns, which not only reduces the thickness of the BLU, also make use of low loss materials as possible, while strengthening the light way.
The output light of several heat sink, to display visual area, so that this technology is better than the traditional side light technology has more advantages, because the technology can be assigned to the uniform thermal load through the backlight module, can reduce the demand and reduce the loss of the waveguide edge.
This technology makes it possible for a small number of die, and the previous LED requires a considerable array of die, making it the first practical significance of large screen backlight solution.
Moreover, the Goldeneye technology can also reduce the majority of the current application of the polarization of the optical film, can enhance the wavelength conversion and color mixing, while enhancing the backlight contrast possible.
Goldeneye said the company is improving several backlight products, is expected in the third quarter of 2008 is expected to produce prototype, the first quarter of 2009 is expected to release commercial. Through the new growth IP portfolio, the company hopes that the technology can be widely used in solid state lighting applications.
