Southern Metropolis Daily reported that around 15 a.m. around 9 a.m., a fire broke out at Galaxy Crowne Plaza Hotel 20, Datong Road, Haikou. It is reported that the fire started from the LED light box located on the south side of the two story hotel.
A video taken by a shop owner near the hotel showed that the LED light box first emitted black smoke and then burst into flames. Around 9:30, the fire increased and burned to the outer wall sign of the hotel. The position of the 6 and 7 floors spread upward, leaving only the frame left, and more than ten air-conditioners were burned down. The boss told reporters that at the beginning, the hotel staff fired fire extinguishers from the first floor and the third floor, but they had no effect. Later, when the fire engine arrived, the fire officers and soldiers spent less than an hour to put out the fire.
Mr. Tsai, a tourist from Guangdong, told reporters that he lived in the north side of the hotel. He only heard the alarm of the fire engine at first. It was not clear what had happened until the waiter knocked on the door and asked to evacuate. When he smelled smoke, he hurried down the stairs with his wife and children.
Two cars parked in the LED light box were filled with black burning objects, and the owners in the hotel hurriedly removed the car after hearing the news. A car owner, Mr. Han, said he now hopes that the hotel will pay for the repair and cleaning of the vehicle.
Reporters at the scene saw that the outer walls and glass of the two storeyed hotel were smoked, but the fire did not spread rapidly into the room. Several sanitation workers are cleaning up the burning objects scattered on the ground. A crowd outside the hotel told reporters that the 3-5 story room windows were broken by fire officers and soldiers when they were fighting.
Ms. Chen, who lives in the 601 room of the hotel, told reporters that she had left the room outside the hotel because the hotel had been cut off at about 8 o'clock. Later, the LED light box caught fire. She hurried to call the 24 year old child in the room to get up and run away. Because the room was on the side of the fire, some of the clothes she had put on the window were burned.
Reporters saw in the lobby that many guests were waiting to check out. Front desk attendant Xiao Zeng told reporters that they had participated in the fire emergency drill before, but when they really met, they were scared to see that the glass was burnt down. Unable to check the guest's information through the computer, she and her colleagues told the guests to evacuate the rooms one by one after the fire broke out.
Mr. Wang, director of the hotel, said that after the fire officers and soldiers confirmed that the fire was caused by a short circuit of the LED light box, the loss is temporarily beyond measure.
