New Zealand's capital, Wellington, plans to replace urban lighting more deeply, with the goal of halving lighting costs and saving about $2 million a year.
At present, Wellington has installed intelligent LED streetlights in areas such as Courtney Place, and in addition, it is also experimenting with LED lighting in some rural areas.
Wellington municipal spokesman Paul Glenny said taxpayers will be able to benefit directly from the cost savings. The municipal government first considers lighting replacement on the main roads, and may also be extended to the coastal area in the future.
