Large power push AM-OLED display development prospects

Competition between Sony and Samsung SDI, Asia's two biggest display giant, will enable OLED to win both in mobile applications and television.

The two companies are active matrix OLED (AM-OLED) manufacturer, Samsung SDI expertise in the mobile phone market, while Sony is the flagship of the future of AM-OLED tv. According to market research company iSuppli and display chief analyst at Vinita Jakhanwal, taking into account the huge market potential, and the characteristics of AM-OLED for small TV and handheld devices, the two companies have sufficient reason to push OLED display.

On the other hand, Samsung SDI display market is more realistic. So far, Samsung SDI is the only manufacturer of AM-OLED displays for mobile phone manufacturers. CMEL (CMO), a subsidiary of Taiwan panel maker, is the only company that produces AM-OLED in large quantities, but its display has not yet entered the end product.

AM-OLED TV market is expected in 2008 shipments of 13 thousand units, sales of only $8 million.
