Micro LED display products have attracted widespread attention from the industry since their emergence. It is reported that Leyard's Micro LED display products, which were officially put into production in October, have become another growth point for its performance. Leyard's Micro LED commercial display products have also been recognized by the market.
Revenue in the third quarter was 1.587 billion yuan, a significant increase of 151% from the previous quarter. The cumulative Micro LED revenue in the first three quarters has reached 12.59 million yuan. Moreover, of the cost of Micro LED modules, the chip cost accounts for approximately 35%-40%, and the PCB board and production process costs each account for 20%-30%. The smaller the chip, the lower the cost. In the manufacturing process, after large-scale mass production, the amortization cost of equipment will also be reduced.
Joint stock company Sa phlux semi-polar gallium nitride has achieved mass production
Recently, Leyard stated on the investor interaction platform that Saphlux's semi-polar gallium nitride has achieved mass production and is currently the only company on the market that can mass-produce high-quality 4-inch semi-polar wafers. At present, Saphlux has a market share of more than 90% in semi-polar substrates. In the future, semi-polar substrates are expected to play an important role in stabilizing the wavelength of green light chips and high-efficiency green light semiconductor lasers, providing technical support for the company's display field.
In fact, Leyard invested in Saphlux, an LED chip material company that produces semi-polar gallium nitride wafers, in 2017, and established a joint laboratory with Saphlux to use its semi-polar gallium nitride materials to solve the wavelength consistency and peak shift problems of Mini/Micro LED wafers. The two parties have worked together to advance the development of NPQD Micro LED displays.
Micro LED consumer TV has already made initial revenue
Leyard's wholly-owned brand PLANAR has products such as Micro LED TV and AI smart TV.
Among them, Micro LED TVs cover a variety of models including 110-inch, 135-inch and 216-inch, with 4K and 8K options. This year, in order to fully enter the domestic consumer TV market, PLANAR has launched a series of full-size LED TVs such as 98-inch 4K, 86-inch, and 75-inch.
As of the second quarter, PLANAR's large-size TVs have been fully launched. By the third quarter, consumer TVs have begun to contribute revenue, and the influence of the PLANAR brand has been further expanded.
Integrated development of the industrial chain, Micro LED display technology develops rapidly
Leyard has optimized its layout early from epitaxial materials, Micro LED chips, to mass transfer technology, and driver IC supply chain, and has become the first camp on the Micro LED display development track. These include the tacit cooperation with Epistar Optoelectronics to put into production the Lijing base, and jointly promoting the development of the world's first NPQD Micro LED display with the joint-stock company Saphlux. These are the solid foundation for the integrated development of Leyard's LED display industry chain.
In addition, Leyard related people also said that in the future, Leyard Micro LED display products will integrate traditional LEDs, and the application scenarios will continue to expand. Micro LED will also continue to follow up in AR/VR and more commercial or household consumption, contributing to the performance growth of Leyard Group.
Leyard, Epistar, and Lijing also jointly established the Micro LED Research Institute and released the "Micro LED Display Technology and Application White Paper." Recently, Leyard announced during an institutional survey that the cost structure of Micro LED modules can improve Micro LED costs in many aspects.
Regarding the cost structure of Micro LED, Leyard said that the cost structure of Micro LED is different from that of small pitch. The original core cost of small pitches was LED packaged lights, and the proportion of packaged lights increased from about 40% to more than 70% from pitches of 2.5 to 0.9. Another relatively high proportion of small-pitch products is PCB boards, accounting for about 10%. The remaining costs of raw materials, including equipment amortization, account for a lower proportion.
Cost of Micro LED module, current chip It accounts for about 35-40%, the PCB board accounts for about 20-30%, and the production process accounts for about 20-30%. On the trend of cost reduction, the first one is the chip. The smaller the chip, the lower the cost; the second one is the PCB board; the third one that can break through is the manufacturing process. After large-scale mass production, the amortization cost of equipment will be reduced. In addition, in terms of technology, if the yield rate is improved, the intermediate repair link can be omitted, which will also reduce the cost. Therefore, the cost of Micro LED can be improved in many aspects.
