As a token of human production and living behavior, the brightness of nighttime lights reflects to a certain extent the economic development level and growth rate of the region. The larger the "light index", the higher the brightness of the area and the more frequent economic activity. At the same time, this index also has a strong correlation with the urbanization rate and urbanization level of a region.
Last week, the National Information Center released a report on the new era of reform and opening up of big data. From the perspective of big data, we made a comprehensive analysis of the changes in social and economic development in the past 40 years of reform and opening up. Among them, the writing group introduced the new index of light index for the first time. By observing the change of the area and brightness of the light patches, we have vividly demonstrated the new results of tackling poverty in China.
According to the data, compared with 2013, the growth rate of light index in 809 poor counties in China was 48% in 2017, and 28.9% in the non poverty-stricken counties. The growth rate of light index in poor counties was 1.66 times that of the non poverty-stricken areas. Meanwhile, the increase rate of the area of light patches in poor counties was 1.42 times that of the non poverty-stricken areas.
The growth and change of "light index" in poor counties confirms the achievements achieved in tackling poverty alleviation in China in the past 5 years. In October 17th, on the occasion of the fifth countries' poverty relief day, the Poverty Alleviation Office of the State Council announced that there were 85 poverty-stricken counties in China. This is the fourth batch of poverty-stricken counties that have lifted off poverty and lifted their hat since the start of the battle against poverty. So far, the total number of counties in China has reached 153.
