Market research firm iSuppli released the report pointed out that the light emitting diode (LED) will become an important part of the general lighting market, but the time may have to wait until 2010.
LED applied to the lighting market this year, only $144 million, iSuppli expected in 2010 soared to $875 million, a compound annual growth rate of 52%. Such a high growth rate will depend on the development and popularization of high brightness and ultra-high brightness LED.
ISuppli analyst Jagdish Rebello said: "the cost of manufacturing the highest brightness LED lamp brightness is too high, but still less than the traditional. But Lumileds, Nichia and Osram and other companies will continue to enhance the performance of high brightness LED, so they are more suitable for daily lighting."
ISuppli estimates that global LED sales will grow 11% in 2005 to $5 billion 200 million, lower than last year's growth rate of 26%.
Rebello notes: "Taiwan, China, and South Korea have many companies to join the LED manufacturing and packaging supply chain, in order to gain market share, they would slash prices. In addition, with the slow growth of mobile phone shipments, the use of high brightness LED backlight market has begun to cool the most widely."
