In the custom garden solid state lighting lamp in the far red phosphor converted spectral energy generated by the LED display in the laboratory, can increase the yield growth of red lettuce.
Manufacturer LED Lumileds issued a recently at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) enabled lighting systems and Applications (LESA) LED Lighting Research Laboratory of horticultural results. The study was conducted by the senior research scientist Tessa Pocock of red lettuce cultivars Rouxai production, horticultural lighting arrangement and use similar to the vertical farm. Research shows that: compared to the mixed color RGB (red, green and blue) LED, SunPlus for gardening LED, especially the phosphor conversion LED, can increase the yield and nutritional value.
In the autumn of 2016 Lumileds announced the launch of SunPlus series products, including power and high power package of phosphor LED and LED. Among them, notably the purple phosphor converted LED, the use of red phosphor in blue emitter manufacturing. In the series of LED and lime green phosphor conversion design. Lumileds added a COB purple LED recently in the SunPlus series.
Pocock LESA is responsible for the activities of horticultural lighting laboratory. Other academic partners include Boston University, University of New Mexico and Thomas Jefferson university.
In the red lettuce experiment, using different types of solid state lighting Pocock in five separate growth between (SSL). The three custom lamps are mainly based on SunPlus LED. The three use of the lamp strip comprises:
The SunPlus Lime LED and SunPlus Purple LED SunPlus Purple LED Lumileds and the Luxeon 3535L LED SunPlus Purple LED the green color
The other two Finland Valoya use growth between commercial gardening and custom lamps lamp monochrome RGB LED hybrid.
According to the spectral distribution of the photon Pocock five SSL arrangement, resulting in photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) have a very similar environment. For example, in photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) within the scope of each lamp 20% energy in blue (400-500nm) band, 20% (500-600nm) in green energy band, 60% energy in the red band (600-700nm).
Five growth room of the PAR PPFD range of 217? 242 mol/ m2s. Far infrared region in addition to 700-800nm PAR, do have a greater degree of difference spectrum. Monochrome RGB lamp no far infrared energy. Valoya lamps produce 19 mol, and the SunPlus lamps (listed in table 25, 28 order) and 32 mol respectively. The diagram depicts the spectral photon distribution curve.
The above spectral photon distribution curves are listed using the customized gardening lighting lamps in the LESA experiment results.
For each room, the environment remains the same. The light cycle of the plants were exposed to 16 hours a day, 14 days. The temperature is between 18 DEG to 23 DEG C, relative humidity between 50% and 70%. All with the same fertilizer and water.
14 days later, according to the evaluation of plant weight and chlorophyll, anthocyanin and carotenoid levels were measured in antioxidants to yield. In terms of weight, Valoya, SunPlus Purple and Lime LED, Purple and 3535L green LED growth chamber is flat, but better than RGB or SunPlus Purple LED growth chamber. This difference is due to the lack of far infrared energy in RGBLED, but in SunPlus Purple LED growth and the lack of green energy room.
The experiment did not show any differences in the carotenoid level. SunPlus Lime LED and SunPlus Purple LED, Purple LED and LED RGB, and the green growth chamber significantly increased the anthocyanin levels slightly improve chlorophyll.
Lumileds pointed out that when the yield and nutrient concentrations considered, SunPlus Purple and Lime LED showed the best. As mentioned earlier, both of which are phosphor converted LED, wider than the emission band monochrome LED. Lumileds said, SunPlus Purple and green LED hybrid will provide royal blue, green, dark red and far red spectrum. (compiled: LED James)
