New outdoor lighting is installed in UK universities to automatically adjust brightness.

A few days ago, the Royal Holloway University of London of University of London installed an innovative outdoor lighting device equipped with wireless motion sensors.

The building of Royal Holloway, including lecture halls, cafes and student hostels, is located in a vast park like venue, shaded by trees. Holloway.

At dusk, the 200 LED lamps were switched on at 10% light output. When the object is moved and someone is detected, the illumination will gradually brighten up to 50% to 100%.

Two adjacent lamps will also automatically brighten. If no new objects are detected, the output of these lamps will return to the predefined minimum level after 30 seconds of retention time.

All luminaires are connected to a mesh network, which means that all the light points can communicate with the gateway not only, but also notify the adjacent lamps when the objects are moved. Therefore, motion sensors can instantly switch on other lamps in the wireless network.

Compared with other wireless systems, this system architecture makes the activation of lights faster, because in other wireless systems, communication between dots must always be carried out through gateways.

The sensor is developed for harsh outdoor applications and suitable for lighting. It can adjust the brightness of lamps and lanterns according to the existence of pedestrians, cyclists or vehicles, and filter out the disturbance of small animals and branches.

Because students, teachers and university staff often study or work late into the night, the school hopes that the project can provide additional security. (Editor: LED net James)
