Recently, OSRAM photoelectric semiconductor and Joyson Safety Systems have provided an innovative semi-automatic driving system for the new Cadillac CT6. This system, called Super Cruise, is the first real driving technology in the industry to achieve "no hands" at high speed. OSRAM's infrared and LED components are embedded in the Cadillac CT6 steering wheel, allowing the system to monitor the driver's attention by tracking the driver's head position to ensure that the driver is observing the road ahead when the "super cruise" is launched.
"Super cruise" represents the next development stage of adaptive cruise control, and is effective only when drivers focus on the road ahead. For this reason, Joyson Safety Systems has designed a steering wheel with OSRAM. The steering wheel uses an embedded infrared camera to track the driver's head position and eye direction, so that the driver's eyes keep looking at the road ahead. If the driver does not look at the road for a long time, the super cruise system will send a series of alerts to the driver. Under the limited circumstances that the driver has no response at all, Cadillac CT6 will use vehicle driver assistance technology to stop the vehicle "controllable".
The steering wheel of Joyson Safety Systems is equipped with OSRAM Oslon Black SFH 4715S IRED, which can help track eye movements and Osram RGB RGB, so as to indicate to the driver the functions currently executing by the driver. For example, when the "super cruise" system is enabled, the LED lights turn green. When the system detects that the driver may not notice, the indicator turns blue. When the system is not used, the indicator turns red. When IRED is blocked and can not see the driver's eyes, LED will also flicker.
Rajeev Thakur, OSRAM semiconductor marketing manager, said, "we are very pleased to cooperate with Joyson Safety Systems to develop super cruise system". "Our visible and infrared LED makes us in a unique position, and can cooperate with all kinds of dynamic development partners to create an advanced driver assistance system." Driver monitoring, laser radar, adaptive headlights and so on. Partnerships like this will continue to enable us to improve mobility and create safer transport solutions. " (Editor: LED net James)
