Patents are valuable, but innovation and intellectual property protection in the LED industry are even more expensive.

Recently, Ledman has obtained two more invention patents, namely: "LED packaging structure and process", the patent number is: 201310277571.5; "A power LED", the patent number is: 201210339054.1. In addition to Lehman, many LED companies have also released their latest invention patents.

For example, Unilumin Technology's LED display centralized management and control system has obtained the computer software copyright from the National Copyright Office of the People's Republic of China;

Alto Electronics has obtained an invention patent certificate issued by the State Intellectual Property Office of the People's Republic of China. The patent name is an LED full-color screen system and its brightness adjustment method;

Absen obtained an invention patent certificate issued by the State Intellectual Property Office in September last year, and the name of the invention is LED display;

Coincidentally, Leyard also made a breakthrough in technology accumulation last year and obtained 16 more patents and 12 copyrights;

Lixiang Huike's innovative technology recently obtained an invention patent certificate. Patent name: An LED combination screen locking mechanism, LED unit screen and LED combination screen; Patent number: ZL 2012 1 0507441.I;

On May 30, Nationstar Optoelectronics issued an evening announcement stating that the company received two invention patent certificates issued by the State Intellectual Property Office of the People's Republic of China on May 27, 2016. The certificates are as follows:

Many companies said that obtaining invention patents will help them further improve their intellectual property protection system, form a continuous innovation mechanism, give full play to the advantages of independent intellectual property rights, maintain technological leadership, enhance the company's core competitiveness, and obtain better operating results.

In fact, relevant data shows that the number of patent applications in China's LED industry is 79,148, ranking second in the world, accounting for 25.97% of the total global applications. Overall, China's patent applications are the most active, with China and the United States accounting for an increasing number of patent applications. Compared with 2012, China's total number of patent applications in 2013 surpassed that of the United States, ranking second behind Japan. From this, it is not difficult to see that China's LED industry has gradually increased its awareness of innovation, invested more in scientific and technological research and development, and companies have applied for more and more patents.

However, as LED enters the "Red Ocean", homogeneity and price wars are like poison permeating the LED industry. At the same time, the lack of innovation and cost saving have made "borrowingism" prevalent in the industry, and malicious infringement of patents and plagiarism occur from time to time. Not long ago, Chip Optoelectronics' products were counterfeited by many companies. Wu Xiaogang of Chip Optoelectronics said that plagiarism has seriously affected his company's market share and customer reputation.

Why not take up legal weapons to defend your rights? "The homogeneity is serious, there is no one who infringes who, and it is difficult to obtain evidence. Only relatively unique invention patents can be elevated to the level of infringement." Wu Xiaogang said helplessly.

Obviously, patents are valuable, and innovation and intellectual property protection in the LED industry are even more expensive. In the LED industry, infringement is easy and the cost is very low. It is difficult for people to provide evidence, requires a lot of investment, and the effect of protecting their rights is not obvious. Therefore, the protection of intellectual property rights is even more critical.

We know that intellectual property rights (such as invention patents and design patents) are the intellectual achievements of internal engineers/designers within the company, and should be respected and protected. Regarding this kind of behavior that hinders the innovative development of the industry, we must first advocate that the whole society establish a cultural atmosphere that respects independent innovation.

Secondly, the government or industry must establish relevant laws and regulations. The premise of the current government's advocacy of "mass entrepreneurship and innovation" is to respect innovation and support originality. Premier Li Keqiang has emphasized on many occasions that "protecting intellectual property rights means protecting innovation." Therefore, in order for China to transform from a "manufacturing power" to a "creating power", it needs to continue to support originality, encourage innovation, and add the protective umbrella of intellectual property rights to creation, so as to achieve "the fire of genius and the fuel of interests." On June 2, the General Office of the Guangdong Provincial Government issued "Several Opinions on Innovation-Driven Development of Intellectual Property Services", which includes many specific measures.

In addition to striving for independent innovation, LED companies must also strengthen their awareness of patent protection. When necessary, they must take up legal weapons to safeguard their rights.
