Patient centered, day and night rhythm lamps installed in US hospitals

The Philadelphia children's hospital has installed circadian rhythms to set the sleep awakening cycle for patients.

The lighting of the Department of medical behavior in the hospital will change the color and intensity within a day to reset the circadian rhythm of the patient.

These lights are low intensity warm colors in the early morning, cool colors in the morning, high intensity in the afternoon, and warm colors at low temperatures in the evening.

It is designed to cushion the interference of hospitals in normal sleep - Awakening cycle. In hospitals, daytime is usually not bright enough, or is not dark enough at night to suppress the natural pattern of human body. Therefore, patients' rhythms are often disrupted in the medical environment.

Maintaining regular sleep - the awakening cycle is seen as an important clinical tool in the Department of medical behavior, which treats children with medical problems, and these children also have potential behavioral conditions, such as depression, anxiety and autism.

Mary Alcaraz, senior project manager, said that children can also color their LED lights on their beds, which can play a positive distraction effect.

The hospital did not describe this kind of luminaire as the so-called "people-oriented lighting", nor was it involved in scientific research on color matching effect.

Last month, a study concluded that proper lighting in Sanatorium can improve sleep, mood and behavior in Alzheimer's patients. (Editor: LED net James)
