Quality varies, and the LED display industry urgently needs standards to regulate

News from this Journal Recently, a piece of blockbuster news "BOE's OLED screen was not included in the first batch of iPhone 12 supply because it failed the test" revealed that BOE's OLED screen has quality problems and will not be included in the supply of Apple's new iPhone this year. 12) Deliver the first batch of OLED panels.

In addition, according to Korean media reports, in addition to failing Apple’s testing standards, BOE’s OLED screens also did not meet Samsung’s requirements. Currently, BOE will try to submit new screens for evaluation. Coincidentally, also in June, a large number of consumers complained about TCL screen problems. Why are LCD panel manufacturers so frequently complained? 》The news was exposed, and the combination of the two triggered people's concerns about product quality.

Quality issues have always been a focus of people's attention, and this BOE OLED screen "Waterloo" incident has made people realize the importance of quality. For the display industry, these news are nothing short of a "bolt from the clear sky."

Quality is the key to measuring whether an enterprise can develop for a long time, and it is also the foundation for an enterprise to survive. It is no exaggeration to say that without quality, there will be no future! As a display device, the quality of LED displays has also been a common topic in recent years. As a non-standardized customized product, the quality of LED displays has always been criticized. Because it is a customized engineering product, in addition to the most basic industry standards, LED displays lack corresponding specifications in the entire manufacturing, installation, and use processes. As a result, LED displays have varying degrees of quality hazards not only in the manufacturing process before leaving the factory, but also in the installation and use processes. portant;">

For now, the problems affecting the quality of LED display products are more about the lack and lag of standards.

It is understood that the "General Specifications for LED Electronic Displays" (SJ/T11141-2012) and "LED Display Test Methods" (SJ/T11281-2007) are two of the few national standards in the LED display industry. Both have been revised and updated many times. As of now, two copies The standards have gained consensus across the entire industry and overseas markets, and have also been recognized by Taiwanese compatriots and peers from various countries. It is worth mentioning that almost all current LED display bidding is based on these two standards. To this day, these two standards are still the mainstay of the entire LED display.

However, as LED display technology continues to update and develop, and the market scale continues to expand, some industry standards can no longer meet the needs of the LED display industry and engineering. Even Hong Zhen, deputy secretary-general of the China Optics and Optoelectronics Industry Association and secretary-general of the LED Display Application Branch, once said : Currently, one of the more prominent problems in the formulation process of China's LED industry standards is the long time cycle. It often takes about two years for a standard to be revised from revision to introduction. In many cases, the formulation of industry standards lags behind technological development, resulting in new standards becoming a dead letter and losing their meaning.

Secretary-General Hong Zhen sharply pointed out the lagging nature of standards in my country's LED industry. The emergence of this situation has also led to the mismatch between product technology and standards: Simply put, standards cannot keep up with the development situation of the industry. At the same time, lagging standards is also one of the reasons for the uneven quality of products in the current market. portant;">

For example, for the same LED display product, since each company has different production standards, the manufacturing process and quality are also very different! If put on the market, there may be multiple types; the quality of these products is uneven, and if there is no suitable standard to refer to the quality, it is extremely easy to cause misunderstandings. For example, during the epidemic, the Netherlands, Spain, Turkey and other countries successively returned the masks purchased from my country. Afterwards, after investigation and evidence collection in my country, it was found that the "own goal" incident was caused by inconsistent standards. This clearly shows the importance of standards.

Among the LED display companies, there are many companies that have already realized this. When technology develops rapidly and no new suitable standards emerge, they have to pass multiple tests and adopt the most suitable standards to regulate their own products. Among them, Absen The practice of building a corporate standard system is worth learning from. It is understood that for many years, Absen has been practicing the business philosophy of "quality is always the lifeline of an enterprise" and improving product quality by formulating standards and self-regulation, thus establishing a good reputation for Absen products.

Currently, new products and concepts are emerging in the LED display industry. Among them, the most popular ones are "Mini LED" and "Micro LED". Up to now, many companies have launched related products for "Mini LED" and "Micro LED", including Konka's 236-inch Micro LED TV worth 8.88 million yuan, Ledman Optoelectronics' Micro LED-based ultra-high-definition display and Unilumin Technology's 162-inch UMini conference all-in-one machine. portant;">

Concerning these frequent new products and new concepts, not only customers have doubts, but even our LED display peer companies are also skeptical about this. The reason is that there is no feasible standard in the industry. When measuring these products, the companies themselves cannot provide "evidence" to prove whether these products are genuine. Some are just different opinions in our industry. Public opinion is reasonable and mother-in-law is right. Therefore, almost all products in the entire industry are uneven and inconsistent. If you compare the "new" products of any two companies on the market, you will find that it is not the same thing at all, and some are simply irrelevant!

Faced with this situation, we must be tolerant and affirm the innovative measures of relevant companies. At the same time, we must keep our eyes open and not follow the trend of concept hype. The current frequent emergence of new products is also in line with the characteristics of customized products, because only by constantly trying and running in applications can product quality be improved to a higher level. Premature restrictions and denials will inevitably dampen the enthusiasm of enterprises for product innovation. Doing so is tantamount to killing "innovation" in the cradle. However, we cannot ignore this situation of uneven quality and let it go. More importantly, we should standardize product production by establishing relevant standards.

Up to now, many group standards in my country have entered the final review stage, such as the "Series Spectrum of Light-Emitting Diode Surface-mounted Products (SMD) for Indoor Small Pitch/Mini Full-Color LED Displays", "General Technical Requirements for Asynchronous Grayscale LED Display Controllers (Cards)", "General Technical Specifications for Indoor COB Small Pitch LED Displays", "Energy Efficiency Limits and Efficiency Levels of Outdoor Displays (I)" and "Indoor SMD" led by the China Optoelectronics Industry Association's Light-Emitting Diode Display Application Branch. P2.5/P1.9 LED Cloud Screen" are all in the final review stage. Although they are not as strong as the national standard in normative and industry guidance, they also play a positive role in promoting product development and can also protect product quality. portant;">

Nowadays, our LED display products have developed in many directions and opened up new markets, such as the smart light pole market and the high-definition conference market. When we enter these fields, we must pay close attention to quality and ensure product quality. Only in this way can our LED display screens go further and be more stable. Naturally, more standards are needed to improve related matters. At the same time, the long road still requires our continuous efforts and a long way to go.
