Renesas LCD timing controller integrated drive and color conversion

Renesas Technology Corp (Renesas Technology) is released for R8J66730FP TFT color LCD timing controller. It integrates over drive and color conversion in a separate package, as well as frame storage SDRAM function. The device is packaged in a 176 lead LQFP package, which will be available in Japan in September 13, 2005.

Timing controller is a generation of LCD display control signal LSI. R8J66730FP is the first standard product of Renesas technology, which can provide the following features.

(1) in a separate package integrated function and frame storage function driver, can reduce the power consumption and the cost of the liquid crystal display module

R8J66730FP integrated drive function, moving image can improve LCD display response ability, also uses the frame data can reduce the frame storage compression technology (cFFD). With the traditional timing controller driver function need two frame storage SDRAM, for example, television LCD displays a WXGA+ resolution, compression technology can make the number of SDRAM reduced to the use of a frame of data. In addition, the SiP (system level packaging) technology enables timing controller chip and SDRAM chip can be accommodated into a separate package, not only reduces the EMI noise, but also reduces the user burden of high-speed signal processing. The use of R8J66730FP can reduce the power consumption of the LCD module, but also can reduce the current use of the three components to one, thereby reducing costs.

(2) color conversion adjustment application function for color display

R8J66730FP integrated natural color (NCM) color transfer function matrix. This can make the LCD color changed to more vivid colors, for example, can be used to watch TV display, or computer display applications with original sRGB*4 standard color faithfully.
