As demand for LCD TV is growing, SONY is considering the acquisition of a liquid crystal display manufacturers, in order to ensure a steady supply, and reduce the purchasing cost. "We are considering different options, including mergers and acquisitions," SONY TV chief Makoto Kogure told the "Financial Times" said in an interview.
"We will not have enough panels...... We are thinking about what to do, whether it's just mergers and acquisitions or S-LCD. We are fully considering these (options)."
S-LCD, a $2 billion joint venture between SONY and its South Korean rival Samsung, started offering panels to SONY earlier this year, but still not enough to meet global demand.
