Save your heart and labor! US Internet of things can detect traffic and vehicle data

The networking lighting in the center of Portland can monitor traffic volume and vehicle speed on the road.

In three high-risk and busy streets, Portland installed more than 200 traffic sensors in the street lamps, hoping to reduce the number of accidents on the streets.

Sensors will record the number of vehicles and pedestrians, 24 hours a day tracking vehicle speed. The traffic engineers of Portland traffic bureau will use the data generated by sensors to improve safety and optimize urban traffic flow.

Leah Treat, director of the Transport Bureau, said, "designing safe streets starts with good data". "Before, collecting such data takes a lot of time and manpower." Now with these smart sensors, we can get some real-time data for the street. Therefore, our transportation engineers will be smarter and Portland people will be safer. "

The project was carried out by the Portland Communications Bureau in collaboration with the local Portland General Electric (Portland General Electric), while the partners also had GE's Current and telecom giant's at & T.

It is reported that the project is part of Portland's smart city construction, focusing on improving the lives of citizens by using data and technology.

Mayor of Portland said, "Portland is in a leading position in this important data". "We are at the forefront of adopting advanced technology, making our city safer for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers, making people travel easier, save time and reduce crashes. This pilot is an important step in obtaining and utilizing data to make key decisions. "

These sensors will be connected through at & T's LTE wireless network.

It is understood that the sensor is produced by Current and is part of the CityIQ smart city technology platform. The platform also includes application development platform, connection support, cloud API (Application Programming Interface), and applications provided by Current or its Internet Ecosystem partners.
