When it comes to the protection of a single LED, it is essential to select the correct protection device in the LED string that requires the installation of a series circuit. This requires an understanding of the underlying LED failure mechanism and the working principles of different types of protective devices. This understanding is helpful for the circuit designer to select the appropriate device, including a device that can keep a series of LED strings running when the LED fails because of a broken circuit.
The bypass protection device within the LED string (Figure 1) allows the string to continue to operate when a single LED fails. By limiting any excess current or voltage across the LED string, it helps protect the LED drive.
Figure 1: use a single LED appropriate bypass protection protection device in the LED string, which can not only keep the LED string can still lighting, but also helps to protect the LED driver from the current and voltage (possibly due to LED failure).
