The Fairchild high integration SD precise filter / driver

Fairchild (Fairchild Semiconductor) before the launch is alleged to have the highest degree of integration of the standard definition (SD), low pass filter driver FMS6406 / video reconstruction. The device integrates a sound notch and multiple output drivers to meet the latest cable and satellite set-top boxes for 170ns group delay predistortion (group delay) performance requirements. FMS6406 contains a group delay and chroma / luminance (chroma/luma) delay FCC predistortion circuit, which can avoid the distortion of the high frequency edge of the image from the TV screen, thus compensating for the distortion of the television receiver. The notch filter (notch filter) in the video signal about 4.5MHz to establish a window, so that the audio and video signals in the channel 3/4 RF regulator before the elimination of interference between the two.

The Fairchild video product marketing manager Jeremy Tole said: "the high integrated video filter Fairchild through effectively replace the discrete reconstruction filter, external sound notch and group delay compensation circuit and cable drive circuit board space will be reduced from 30% to 40%, and at the same time in the set-top box and personal video recorder (PVR) to improve the reliability of the system application. This integration saves board space. FMS6406 provides efficient and low-cost system solutions to meet the urgent needs of set-top boxes and PVR market."

Fairchild's FMS6406 is a five order video filter, which can significantly reduce the clock and image frequencies after the digital to analog conversion process on the MPEG chip, eliminating the need for digital distortion. The video filter / driver can also be DC coupled in the output to improve the low frequency video signal, and do not need to use three large capacitors.

Typical set-top box design can provide S video and composite video output. The Fairchild FMS6406 provides separate chroma and luminance outputs that directly drive the S video output. These outputs can also be internally accumulated to form a composite video signal. The composite and S video outputs provide fixed 6 dB gain and provide DC or AC coupling flexibility.

Main features include:

7.6 dual five order MHz low-pass filter eliminates the need for digital distortion; RF regulator to support integrated equalizer and voice driven RF notch filter regulator; 4.5MHz voice FM audio carrier trap removal following spectral region video clutter; suitable for NTSC application 170ns group delay / chroma luminance delay predistortion (such as FCC radio transmitter requirements), can compensate the inherent receiver IF filter group delay distortion; AC coupled input and low inclination AC recovery circuit; the input is Y/C format, including a Y sync tip clamp (sync tip clamp) and chroma blanking clamp (chroma blanking clamp) filter; output for Y/C and CV format, under 27 MHz stopband attenuation is 50 dB; under 4.2 MHz flatness is better than that of 0.5dB; all outputs are capable of driving 2 Vpp, AC or DC Coupled to single or dual 75 video loads; an internal chroma luminance accumulation circuit to drive the composite video output.

FMS6406 uses a space saving 8 pin OIC package. The lead free products can meet or even exceed the IPC/JEDEC standard requirements of J-STD-020B, and is now in line with the EU standards.
