Are you ready for the future? In the next 15 years, road infrastructure will be greatly developed, lighting technology will play an important role.
From the driver's awareness to ease traffic flow, vehicle networking technology and road lighting will significantly affect the quality of transportation and the safety of drivers and pedestrians. Eaton is responsible for lighting network community senior marketing manager Jay Sachetti introduced the status quo and future automotive networking, and the role of road lighting.
What is the car networking technology?
The car networking technology can realize networking wireless communication between the vehicles, system infrastructure and personal communication equipment, high security and interoperability. Now some of the most advanced automotive anti-collision technology in vehicle sensors, cameras and radar applications. These techniques will remind drivers of impending danger, so that our opportunity to take corrective measures, or even can intervene.
What is the principle?
Vehicle to vehicle communication (V2V) is another step to help remind the driver of danger. V2V communication using vehicle special short range radio communication apparatus, transmitting and receiving information, such as information of car speed and direction and braking state. The range and distance ability beyond the current system, in some cases, even reached nearly two times. The long distance detection and through other vehicles around the corner or the ability to observe, to help the car equipped with V2V communication earlier aware of some threats, and accordingly to remind the driver. The car networking technology can also let the car through the V2I communication (vehicle to infrastructure) exchange information infrastructure (such as traffic signals or road lighting). V2I communication in addition to the car networking security advantages, also provides mobility. The standard data will be in the future for road lighting and traffic lights real adaptive control system.
At present, the United States federal and local government officials are trying to implement network. The Michigan Department of transportation (DOT) to test the first networking area of a I-75 is south of Detroit on the road. The Michigan Department of transportation (DOT) would like to remind the driver information, whether the information including the presence of staff, is what type of job and start etc.. The United States Department of transportation is the city of New York, Tampa, and Wyoming and other three places to test the technology.
How lighting technology will continue to change our way?
Traffic lights, road signs and construction sites to remind signs are soon to be part of the network ecosystem, providing and receiving information, make driving more smoothly.
The timing of all the traffic lights are not the same. Drivers sometimes do not understand in clear whether can through the yellow light traffic, or turn signal activation etc.. However, when the traffic lights communicate with the car, the driver can make security decisions.
SachettiV2I The spacing of road lighting is generally 30 to 90 meters, the installation height is generally 6 meters to 12 meters. This provides a favorable position for each aspect, from the intersection to hilly areas, so as to provide convenience for the continuous V2I communication."
The vehicle data, including speed, location, ambient light levels and road friction, such as humidity, temperature and road reflectivity, the input power and lighting management system (ELMS). ELMS will dynamically adjust or adaptive control on the road light level. Sachetti said: "these data points can ensure the safety of pedestrians and drivers, to remind the driver even crossing the red light animal."
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) predicted by V2V and V2I, can eliminate or reduce more than 80% of the non impaired the severity of the crash, including the crossroads or changing lanes of the accident. Lighting technology will play a major role in the future. (compiled: LED James)
