Agricultural lighting: "Plant factories" will bring innovation to agriculture
With the continuous development of modern agriculture, the demand and energy consumption of agricultural lighting are constantly expanding, which also poses new challenges to traditional agricultural lighting technology. As a new generation of light source, LED is not only environmentally friendly and energy-saving. Compared with artificial light sources such as fluorescent lamps or high-pressure sodium lamps commonly used in traditional agricultural fields, LED has the characteristics of adjustable light quantity, adjustable light quality, low cooling load, and allowing an increase in cultivation volume per unit area. It is a very suitable artificial light source for closed and environmentally controlled agricultural production environments, such as plant tissue culture rooms.
It is foreseeable that the application of LED will bring more innovations to agriculture. For example, "plant factories" are considered to be an advanced stage of development of facility agriculture, integrating modern biotechnology, information technology, artificial environment control and other high technologies. Not only are the yields many times higher than land cultivation, but they can also be produced on non-arable land such as the Gobi, deserts, islands, water and even urban buildings. They are also considered to be an effective technical means to solve problems such as population, resources, and the environment in the future.
In my country, agricultural lighting has begun to use LEDs. For example, some domestic agricultural demonstration areas have established solar photovoltaic LED plant factories. Our government has accelerated the application of LED in agricultural applications through support for scientific research projects. For example, during the "11th Five-Year Plan" period, a project was established through the 863 Plan. During the "12th Five-Year Plan" period, there will also be support for the establishment of several LED agricultural scientific research projects. Some local governments have also encouraged the introduction of energy-saving and efficient LED agricultural lighting application projects for use in the park through the establishment of agricultural science and technology demonstration parks.
In fact, plant lighting has long been popular in Japan and South Korea. The sales market of LED plant lights are concentrated in Japan, South Korea, Central America, Europe and other countries and regions with fewer agricultural personnel. However, as the penetration rate of LED plant growth lights increases, the Chinese market has entered an explosive period. According to a survey, the global output value of LED plant growth lights began to show rapid growth in 2013. Although the output value is only tens of millions of US dollars, it is estimated to exceed US$35 million in 2014, and is expected to challenge US$300 million in 2017. In addition to some agricultural applications, the research and development of related technologies for LED applications in the agricultural field are also receiving increasing attention.
Generally speaking, whether it is from the perspective of promoting the development of modern agriculture or realizing energy conservation and environmental protection, the application of LED in agriculture is of great significance, and the status and development needs of agriculture also provide development opportunities for LED.
Automotive lighting: a new blue ocean in the LED lighting market
In recent years, with many advantages such as increased light efficiency, low energy consumption, high reliability, long life, small size, and environmental protection, LEDs have been increasingly used in automotive interior and exterior lighting. They have leapt from initially unimportant automotive lighting applications, such as cabin lighting, parking lights, and instrument panel backlighting, to broader applications such as headlights and combination taillights.
It is understood that before 2010, the average growth rate of the domestic LED automotive lighting market was 13%. In the past two years, the LED automotive lighting market has grown at a rate of more than 40%. Last year, the domestic automotive lighting market exceeded 20 billion yuan. The gross profit of automotive LED lighting products is 3-5 times that of ordinary LED products. This market segment has attracted more domestic and foreign companies to get involved. On the one hand, Taiwanese companies are testing the waters one after another and starting a wave of transformation into automotive lighting. Last year, established companies such as Epistar, Canyuan, AUO, and Dongbei have extended their business tentacles to international automobile brands, actively invested in building factories in mainland China, and accelerated the pace of development in the field of LED automotive lighting. On the other hand, European and American companies such as Hella Group, Osram, Philips and other big brothers in the field of automotive lighting are naturally not willing to lag behind Taiwanese companies. They have used their original channel advantages to launch a fierce attack on the automotive lighting market. Investment and construction of factories are very exciting.
With the gradual development of the domestic automobile industry, the LED automobile lighting market is gradually becoming more and more popular and is known as the new blue ocean of the LED lighting market.
Medical lighting: from special to general, favored by the industry
Since 2007, LED medical lighting in my country has only begun to take off. In my country, the medical lighting industry belongs to the medical device industry. Compared with ordinary functional lighting, it has stricter regulations and certification requirements, and is also extremely strict in terms of technology and safety rules. Due to the high barriers to entry and high technical risks, as well as the fact that most physical therapy equipment companies do not know much about LED performance and practical technology, only a few large companies cooperate with medical institutions to produce such products. Therefore, the progress of LED medical lighting is not ideal and does not meet the demand. This is the biggest obstacle restricting the development of medical lighting.
It is understood that the application categories of medical lighting include: functional lighting inside and outside hospital buildings, that is, functional lighting other than the display of information such as medical resources and medical guidance; peep lighting, which is used for lesion detection and observation; surgical lighting, used to provide high-quality lighting tools during operations; disinfection and sterilization radiation light sources; phototherapy, light radiation therapy light sources; pathological detection light sources, etc.
From outdoor to indoor, from special to general, LED’s footprint in medical lighting continues to expand. According to predictions by relevant research institutions, the application of LED in surgical lighting is expected to grow at an annual rate of 76.4% from 2010 to 2017. As LED applications gradually develop into biological, medical, health and other fields, the huge market potential of LED applications in the medical field has gradually received attention. Although, compared with general lighting, medical lighting has certain particularities in terms of lighting requirements and market access, many companies are still increasing their efforts to enter the field of medical lighting.
