The time has come to promote OLED lighting, with a market value of US$1.4 billion by the end of 2020

Lighting technology has gradually evolved, from traditional incandescent lamps to energy-saving LED lamps, and now more advanced OLED lamps have also emerged. Acuity Brands, the largest lighting company in North America, believes that the time has come to promote commercial and household OLED lamps; research organization Nanomarkets also estimates that the global OLED market will reach US$1.4 billion by the end of 2020.
CNET reported on the 27th that OLED uses a sheet-shaped light source to replace the point-shaped light spots of LED. The light is not dazzling and does not require a hood to block it. It can also be folded and bent, and has a wider range of uses. However, OLED lamps are currently overpriced, which is the biggest obstacle to entering the market. Acuity Brands believes that the price of OLED lamps will drop significantly in the next few years.
Although the price is still high, Acuity Brands believes that there are still ways to promote OLED lighting technology. It will launch the wall-mounted sconce Nomi this week, which is made of 50x250 mm OLED panels. It will launch straight standing lamps first, and then launch curved standing lamps. It is scheduled to be unveiled at the Las Vegas International Lighting Show in June.
OLED lighting panel manufacturers include Konica Minolta, Philips, DuPont, LG Chem, etc.
Nikkei reported on February 12 that Pioneer will start mass production of O using the "luminescent layer coating type (the luminescent layer is formed through a coating process)" production technology in March at its production base in Yonezawa City, Yamagata Prefecture. The initial monthly output of LED lighting panels, calculated as square panels with a side length of 10cm, is several thousand pieces, and it is planned to expand production to about 40,000 pieces in the second half of 2014 (October 2014 - March 2015).
Pioneer has joined hands with Mitsubishi Chemical to establish an OLED lighting sales company, and plans to capture 30% of the OLED lighting market in 2019, with a revenue challenge of 30 billion yen. According to Nikkei, compared with LED lighting, the light emitted by OLED lighting is closer to natural light. However, even if the above-mentioned coating technology is used, its unit price is still 2-3 times that of LED lighting.
