In Tenerife, Canary Islands, about 6000 new streetlights will be equipped with special light panels to filter out the blue light and guide the light to the ground to avoid disturbing the nearby astronomical observatory.
Thanks to the extremely clear sky, these islands have many internationally renowned observatories, protected by Spanish laws.
This led the city government to take measures to lighten light pollution, such as prohibiting the use of high pressure mercury lamp or white light. Of course, there are also some special examples, such as lighting for sports and advertisements.
At the same time, the project will install 100 street lights with sensors to accommodate existing and future sensors (such as noise, pollution, traffic monitoring, etc.), and can match the software applications of Signify, the equipment supplier. These accessories are equipped with two systems of sockets, one mounted on the top, the other mounted on the bottom of each lamp, and compatible with the Zhaga standard.
It is reported that the street lamp project will be held by ImesAPI. ImesAPI will use Signify's Interact City street lighting management system to monitor, control and manage 3000 Luma and 1500 ClassicStreet lamps and lanterns. About 1500 sodium streetlights in existing facilities will be added to the Interact City with connector kit.
Lope Afonso, mayor of La Cruz port, said: "for astronomers and those who like starry night, our sky quality is second to none".
"We want to protect these valuable resources and make our streets safer for citizens and tourists."
"This latest technology meets the needs of the local observatory, and will help us reduce the electricity consumption of public lighting by about 65%. At the same time, it will provide a choice for our future smart city services. (Editor: LED net James)
