According to the "Changsha Evening News" report, on February 25, the Jinxia Micro Display Industrial Park project with a total investment of 3 billion yuan started construction in Changsha Jinxia Economic Development Zone. This project is promoted by Changsha Ruixian Technology Co., Ltd. and other entities, and is positioned in the R&D and manufacturing of silicon-based OLED micro display chips.
According to the plan, the industrial park covers an area of approximately 55 acres, with a total construction area of approximately 35,000 square meters, and will be constructed in two phases. After the project reaches full production, it is expected to achieve an annual output value of approximately 3 billion yuan. The park will focus on the layout of silicon-based OLED micro display chips, promote the gathering of upstream and downstream enterprises in the relevant industrial chain, and strengthen the local supporting capabilities of key display components in the field of audio and video equipment manufacturing.
Zhao Liang, chairman of Changsha Ruixian Technology, said that the company’s main product is silicon-based OLED micro-display, which is mainly used in near-eye display devices such as VR and AR, and has a certain application scenario foundation in the Malanshan audio and video industry cluster. The project will form an industrial base integrating R&D, production and sales.
In terms of production line layout, Ruixian Technology relies on the technology accumulation of the existing 8-inch mass production line to promote product improvements in brightness, resolution, lifespan, yield and other indicators, and plans an "8-inch + 12-inch" dual-line layout to cover a more complete silicon-based OLED micro-display product series for AR/VR/XR and other application markets.
According to public information, Ruixian Technology was established in March 2019. It is an enterprise engaged in the research, development, production and sales of OLED microdisplay chips. Its main products are 0.3 to 1.5-inch high-resolution silicon-based active OLED microdisplay chips. Its application fields include industrial design, aerospace, infrared night vision, consumer electronics, FPV and electronic viewfinders.
In addition to the above-mentioned projects, in March 2023, Ruixian Technology invested 300 million yuan to build an 8-inch Micro OLED micro display chip production line in the Qinzhou Port area of Guangxi, officially put into production, with an annual production capacity of approximately 400,000 chips.
Micro OLED industry chain moves frequently
From an industry perspective, the Micro OLED industry chain has also been making frequent moves recently. On January 16 this year, the main project of Xinshijia's Sichuan project was capped, focusing on two product lines: flexible OLED and silicon-based OLED high-definition display modules, targeting high-end smart wearables, vehicle-mounted displays, AR/VR and other fields.
In terms of equipment manufacturers, on January 8, Korean media Etnews reported that South Korean display equipment manufacturer Sunic System recently submitted an announcement to the Korean Exchange, announcing that it had successfully signed a major sales and supply contract for evaporation equipment for mass production of Micro OLED displays, aiming to further deepen the Chinese display market.
Positive signals are also released at the terminal and technology research and development levels. ByteDance's Pico plans to showcase its next-generation flagship XR headset "Project Swan" at the Game Developers Conference in March. The product will be equipped with a self-developed chip and a customized Micro OLED display with a pixel density close to 4,000 PPI.
At the same time, Germany's Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems recently announced that it has successfully developed a new red Micro OLED microdisplay with both ultra-high brightness and high efficiency. It is reported that the first batch of innovative results of this technology will be officially unveiled at the SID European Mid-term Conference in Lisbon, Portugal.
Overall, the Micro OLED industry is accelerating its development, driven by the implementation of local projects, equipment manufacturers' expansion of production, terminal brand upgrades and technological innovation.
