LED lights come with a waterproof and dustproof rating, and IP68 waterproof LED light strips are often heard. So what does IP68 mean?
LED light strips are distinguished by their waterproof grade based on the material they are made of.
IPXX
XX is a two digit number;
The first digit represents the level of protection against solids, with 7 levels, and 0-6 represents each level.
The second digit represents the level of protection against liquids, with 9 levels, with 0-8 representing each level.
Dust level:
0: No protection
1: Prevent large solid intrusion
2: Preventing intrusion of medium sized solids
3: Prevent small solid intrusion
4: Prevent solid objects larger than 1mm from entering
5: Prevent harmful dust accumulation
6: Completely prevent dust from entering
Waterproof grade
0: No protection
1: Water droplets dripping into the shell have no effect
2: When the shell is tilted to 15 degrees, water droplets drop into the shell without affecting it
3: No impact of water or rainwater from a 60 degree corner to the shell
4: The liquid splashed onto the shell from any direction has no harmful effect
5: Rinse with water without any harm
6: Can be used in the environment inside the cabin
7: Can withstand immersion for a short period of time (1m)
8: Immerse in water for a long time under a certain pressure
There are four common waterproof levels of LED light strips: IP20, IP65, IP67, and IP68
Usually, the corresponding waterproof level of the light strip is purchased based on the actual usage environment.
For indoor use, non waterproof light strips can be selected for ceiling lighting, while for underwater use, IP68 waterproof grade can be selected for swimming pools.
