Malaysia accelerates development of solar energy and LED lighting industry

In 2015, the Asian Solar Energy Exhibition (Solar Asia 2015) and the Asian green lighting exhibition (Ecolight Asia 2015) were held together in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Many exhibitors expect that the rising cost of energy and the implementation of environmental protection policies by the local government can bring better prospects for the industry. In 2015, the Asian Solar Energy Exhibition (Solar Asia 2015) and the Asia Green Lighting Exhibition (Ecolight Asia 2015) were held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is an activity in the city's one week Asian environmental protection building plan (EcobuildAsia), which is expected to bring more opportunities for Malaysia's LED lighting and solar panel industry. Generally speaking, the two trends are optimistic about the market prospect. One is the rising cost of energy, forcing businesses and consumers to explore various ways of energy conservation. The second is the Malaysian government's policy to promote the country's environmental reputation. IQ Group is based in Penang, specializing in the manufacture of sensors and LED products controlled by sensors. Business Development Manager BehHunYong said: "at present, everyone pays attention to environmental protection. Because of the high cost of energy, consumer attitudes are beginning to change. " Lybase is an LED producer in Malaysia and KenreeLow, assistant business manager, said: "as consumers buy more green products, the industry has strong growth." At the green lighting exhibition, exhibitors exhibited many environmental lighting products, and claimed that their electricity consumption was 70% to 90% less than that of traditional lighting products, which coincided with the market trend. However, the reason for the rise of energy efficient products is whether the awareness of environmental protection of enterprises and consumers in Malaysia has improved or the price of energy has increased. JustinYang, the international business director of RiShang, a LED producer in Shenzhen, insists that the latter is the key factor. "The operators do not care about environmental issues," he said. They are not interested in introducing environmentally friendly products to them, they only focus on cost. " However, others have different opinions. TCMY is a Malaysia trading company specializing in LED lighting system. Business Development Manager Bryan Ooi said: "our large customers not only focus on cost savings, but also expect products to be environmentally friendly, which is seen as a corporate social responsibility." Government participation is another driving force to promote the growth of LED lighting. Low said: the Malaysia government has launched an environmental procurement plan to encourage people to switch from traditional lighting systems to LED lighting products. Nowadays, all new development projects must use LED lighting. The implementation of regulations has attracted wide attention. There are many unqualified products in the market, many of which are purchased from China, and the authorities must strictly regulate the LED lighting products purchased for new development projects. Yong also believes that the government can further promote the growth of LED lighting industry. He said: last week, I attended another similar exhibition in Singapore, 10 times more than I came here. The Singapore government has implemented a number of measures to encourage people to use environmentally friendly products, especially the introduction of tax preferences. Therefore, the investment return in Singapore's LED sector is ideal, and the cost can be recovered in 9 months. The return period is shorter than that in Malaysia. Many exhibitors believe that the level of consumer perception in Malaysia has made the industry stagnant. Low said: "Lybase applies for product certification in compliance with Malaysia and international standards, highlighting product safety and effectiveness. However, our customers like to get certified products, but they often do not understand the importance of them. Let us explain. However, many exhibitors pointed out that the LED lighting market is still in its infancy, and consumers will have a better understanding of the products in the coming years. Ooi said: "5 to 10 years ago, LED was not a reliable or stable product. Today, LED has become very reliable and durable, and can provide high quality lighting, so consumers' confidence in LED is increasing. The development trend of solar energy is similar to that of LED lighting. MSD Blue Ocean is a solar ring manufacturer in Malaysia. Manager New Yoong Chee said: "everyone pays attention to environmental protection. Many developers want to build environmental protection buildings, and they need to buy various kinds of environmental protection products. However, many people do not focus on environmental protection, but rather want to save money. Like LED lighting, Malaysia's government policy is closely related to the development of solar energy industry. Trina Solar is a photovoltaic module manufacturer in China. Its emerging market, JunrheyCastro, Asia and Middle East Business Manager, thinks Malaysia is a major emerging market, but its importance is far less than that of Japan, China or India. He said: "the Malaysia government tends to strongly support the development of solar energy and green energy, so the authorities will soon modify the policy to bring about a huge change in the market, and will attract more domestic and overseas investors to invest more funds in developing solar energy business." In view of the huge demand for electricity in Malaysia, Trina Solar is also engaged in power generation business. Castro said that because Malaysia's electricity market is in short supply, the company has started building solar power plants and selling electricity to power companies. MSD Blue Ocean and Trina Solar manufacture solar energy products for export in Malaysia. "Although most of our production activities are carried out in China, there are also factories in Malaysia, which mainly serve the US market," Castro said. Chee disclosed that one reason for the production of MSD Blue Ocean in Malaysia is that the export cost of Malaysia is lower than that of China. He said: "we chose Malaysia, because trade with Australia and New Zealand can enjoy many benefits and low export costs. In addition, if our parent company makes products in China and exports to the United States, it must pay anti-dumping duty, but there is no problem of anti-dumping duty in Malaysia. " A number of Chinese companies have been extensively involved in the LED lighting and solar products market in Malaysia, but at two exhibitions, exhibitors have different opinions on the quality of Chinese products. Of course, Chinese companies or companies selling Chinese products insist that their customers are happy to purchase Chinese products. Chee said: "customers think our parent company is from China. Many customers bought products from German or American companies, but later found that the products were made in China. However, Ooi complained that the biggest problem facing the company is to compete with cheap and poor quality Chinese LED lighting products. He said: "the quality of our products is obviously different from that of Chinese products, and whether this will make consumers prefer it depends on their budget. If the budget is limited, they will choose to move towards energy saving, that is, they will buy Chinese products. If they focus on quality, they will choose products from other suppliers, and may choose the products of our company. As expected, prices are still a major factor in developing Malaysia's solar or LED lighting market. As energy prices rise, and the government encourages energy conservation, the use of renewable energy will become more attractive. This trend will benefit LED lighting and solar energy industry. Many exhibitors are waiting for this.
