A few days ago, Qixingtian (Beijing) Consulting Co., Ltd. (Qixingtian for short) announced that the company has successfully acquired nearly 220 patents from Japanese company Seiko in the fields of LCD, LED and OLED technologies. These patents will mainly be used for domestic operations. Relevant experts said that the intervention of professional intermediaries can effectively help domestic companies improve the efficiency and quality of acquiring foreign patents, and reduce the costs and risks of domestic companies' overseas patent acquisitions. At the same time, it will also help broaden the channels for Chinese companies to obtain overseas patents.
It is understood that at present, when domestic enterprises build overseas patent libraries, most of them mainly submit patent applications, and in rare cases they are supplemented by overseas patent acquisitions. This is due to the high price of overseas patents, the existence of institutional barriers, and the difficulty of acquisition. It is also due to the lack of information sources and channels for patent acquisition and the ability of enterprises to screen and negotiate for patents. In recent years, although there have been successful cases of domestic companies acquiring patents overseas, they have been from giant companies such as Huawei, Lenovo, and Alibaba, while small and medium-sized enterprises are rarely heard of.
"It is foreseeable that with the growing demand for overseas patents from some industries and enterprises in my country, the demand for overseas patent acquisitions will also increase. Through the intervention of patent operating agencies, we will be able to give full play to our own advantages and use professional services to meet the actual needs of enterprises," Long Xiang said. During the negotiation process with Japanese companies, he discovered that due to the shrinkage of Japan's local LCD industry, many companies have become willing to sell patents, and the patent resources involved have been targeted by non-patent practicing entities (NPEs) in other countries and regions.
