On May 16, "Henan Business Daily" reported that more than 10 street lights on Wenhua Palace Road (Longhai Road-Ruhe section) were not working. After the report was released, more than 10 citizens reported the problem of street lights not working, and a map of Zhengzhou's "blind street lights" was also drawn.
"Before the viaduct was built on Longhai Road, the street lights often did not light up. Now as soon as the construction starts, the whole road is dark." Mr. Wang, a citizen, was very angry. He questioned why temporary street lights could not be installed to facilitate citizens' safe travel. The street lights on Xinzheng Road (near Jinxing Brewery) are "blind", making it difficult for citizens to travel at night.
The street lights at the intersection of Chengdong Road Freight Station have not been on for more than half a year. Due to the large number of trees on both sides of the road, the light on the road is even dimmer, which is very dangerous.
The street lights on Funiu Road (Huaihe Road-Ruhe section) have not been on since May 1 this year.
Part of the street lights on Shangdu Road (107 Auxiliary Road-Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway Section) are not working.
The street lights on Changjiang Road (Gonggong Road-West Third Ring Road section) have not been on for more than a year.
In addition, the street lights at the intersection of Huxi Road, Wenhua Road and Tiyu Road, the intersection of Kaiyuan Road and Jiangshan Road, and the intersection of Yingbin Road and Xiangshan Road are also not on.

On the evening of May 17, the reporter conducted an on-site visit to the problematic road sections reported by citizens and found that many passers-by picked up flashlights to illuminate, and the street lights in some sections had been "blind" for more than 2 years.
Xinzheng Road: The street lamp has been "blind" for more than 2 years
Around 8:30 pm on May 17th, Xinzheng Road (near Jinxing Brewery) gradually became deserted, and there was some light on the dark road due to the presence of small vendors. "The street lights on this road have not been on for more than two years." Mr. Li, a nearby resident, couldn't help but complain. Because the road is dark, he now has to pick up his wife after her night shift. "The road is dark and I am afraid it is not safe for her to ride a bicycle."
Longhai Road: There are no lights on the road, and minor accidents occur frequently
At around 9 pm on May 17, while visiting near the intersection of Longhai Road on Zijingshan Road, a reporter from Henan Business Daily found that the section of Longhai Road from Zijingshan Road to Nanguan Street was on the road with no lights on, and many passers-by were holding flashlights to illuminate the section. Mr. Yu, a citizen, said that due to the construction of the Longhai Road Viaduct, the road was blocked. "There is only three or four meters of road left. Private cars, buses, electric vehicles, and pedestrians are traveling together. Small scratches and bruises are common." His grandfather was bruised and now he dares not go out when it gets dark.
Changjiang Road: Sanitation workers go to work in the dark, fearful
Since the construction of the viaduct on the West Third Ring Road, the street lights on Changjiang Road (the section from Gongren Road to the West Third Ring Road) have stopped working. Now that the West Third Ring Road has been open to traffic for some time, the street lights still do not work. A sanitation worker complained to a reporter from Henan Business Daily: "Sweeping the floor when it's dark is always scary." At about 10:30 pm on May 17, a reporter from Henan Business News rushed to the vicinity of Changjiang Road (the section from Gongren Road to the West Third Ring Road). There were many auto repair shops on this section of the road, and the non-motorized lanes were full of cars waiting for repairs. Citizens were cautious walking and cycling through this section.

The main reason why street lights are not working due to road construction
Why are so many street lights not working in Zhengzhou? Yesterday afternoon, the reporter called Jian Zuqiang, deputy secretary of the Zhengzhou City Lighting Management Office. He explained that the reasons can be roughly divided into two categories based on the length of time the street lights are out:
First, the road construction has not been completed and the construction unit has not handed over the street lights to the lighting management office. For example, the lights on the first line of the Third Ring Road in Zhengzhou do not light up. On the one hand, it is because the road is under construction and the original street lights and lines have been removed, causing the street lights to not light up. On the other hand, part of the road has been completed, but the power supply and lines matching the street lights do not meet the handover conditions and have not been handed over to the lighting management office. "The low-voltage and high-voltage lines on Longhai Road have been removed, so the street lights will not light up in the Longhai section and surrounding branch lines."
Second, the street lights do not light up for a short time, or the lines are damaged. If the street lights are not working due to construction reasons, the general staff can solve it in time after rushing to the scene.
"For street lights that do not light up due to construction, we will coordinate with relevant departments to install temporary lighting; for street lights that do not light up due to other reasons, the cause will be identified and repaired as soon as possible." Jian Zuqiang said.

In recent years, many traffic accidents have occurred in Zhengzhou on sections where the street lights are not working, and these precious lives can no longer make their way home.
