The world-famous Beijing Expo will be grandly opened at the end of April. Reporters learned on April 2 that the 5G "information highway" in and around the park has been officially completed and put into use. From 8K high-definition video transmitted by 5G, to 5G mobile communication and gaming experience, to 5G light show, 5G remote diagnosis and treatment... As the "nerve center" of the Expo, the 5G "information superhighway" will turn this garden art exhibition into a grand gathering of technology, nature and culture.
How will exhibitors get in close contact with 5G? Guo Ziliang, deputy director of the Information Technology Department of the Beijing Expo Bureau, said that visitors can experience the most advanced application scenarios such as drones, driverless driving, 8K high-definition video, and automatic vending in the 5G exhibition hall in the park. After the opening of the park, 5G mobile phone terminals will also be displayed in the exhibition hall, allowing visitors to experience the high-speed download and low latency features of 5G technology on their mobile phones.
Fan Xiaoqing, general manager of China Tower Beijing Branch, said that this time the tower company has coordinated the construction needs of the three major operators' public networks and government private networks. So far, it has completed the construction of mobile communication infrastructure for the Expo, including 12 large base stations inside and outside the park, as well as 74 micro base stations and 114 smart light poles, achieving full 5G signal coverage in 11 exhibition halls with an area of more than 200,000 square meters. It is reported that under the eaves, inside the wooden fence, and in the curtain, each 5G micro base station will be perfectly integrated into the background of the exhibition hall.
"At its peak, the Expo is expected to welcome 240,000 visitors every day. Mobile phone signal congestion is often a problem when crowds gather too much. 5G, with its large-capacity access capability, can solve this problem."
Guo Ziliang said that "synchronous planning, design, construction, and delivery" of 5G indoor micro base stations and buildings in the park not only ensure the good network quality of 4G and 5G, but also ensure the beauty of the buildings and the coordination with the environment.
In the Expo Park, the communication tower has been transformed into a shared tower, maximizing the realization of one tower with multiple uses. A large base station outside the International Pavilion has four layers of equipment arranged up and down. It also carries 11 sets of communication systems from the three major operators, Zhengtong and Capitel, as well as wireless bridge equipment services for high-point security monitoring and landscape lighting control of the Smart Expo. Compared with independent construction by each company, such a shared tower saves costs by more than 50%.
The light poles on the roadside also hide high technology. A 15-meter light pole has four major functions: signal transmission, LED lights, video surveillance, and screens. There are a total of 74 such smart light poles in the park. There are 112 such smart light poles on 13 roads outside the park, fully meeting the communication and security needs of key roads around the park.
Information and communication networks are an indispensable and important guarantee for major exhibitions and activities, and are also an important foundation for the development of the digital economy. “The Yanqing District Government has vigorously promoted the construction of information and communication infrastructure in the Expo Park and achieved full 5G coverage, precisely to focus on building a Science and Technology Expo and a Smart Expo.” Yu Bo, the head of Yanqing District, said that the next step will be to continue to build multi-functional smart light poles on Yanqing’s main roads and deploy 5G and the Internet of Things in advance.
