CnBeta online news, in 2009, the joint R & D of many well-known universities, including the University of Illinois and the Tsinghua University, created a super thin inorganic LED called "Micro-LED", regardless of its brightness and durability, which is higher than the traditional LED.
In May 2014, the Apple Corp bought LuxVue, which specializes in low power micro-LED technology research and development, suggesting that the display technology is expected to be equipped in the apple product line. This new technology is a very miniaturized LED display, and the LED display array can reduce power consumption and increase brightness.
After choosing micro LED technology in the industry, Apple has also seen the potential for the development of a flexural micro LED array from the LuxVue patent to compete positively in the future with a flexible AMOLED screen.
In the Display Week trade show last week, Nouvoyance's current CEO was also the P permutation founder of the Samsung OLED panel, Candice Brown-Elliott, in an interview with media reporters: "just like this screen display technology could bring potential screen revolutions, only a few before Apple's acquisition of LuxVue last year." People in the field know, and now many people have begun to discuss this technology in the community. "
Two Micro-LED experts said at this Display Week that it is difficult to produce all kinds of practical screen panels at the present level, which means that at least it is unlikely to see this screen technology at least in the near future on iPhone, iPad or iMac product lines. However, for smaller screen sizes, Micro-LED is still possible, and apple is currently using OLED screen technology in Apple Watch, but Micro-LED may be a potential substitute.
