Why do OLED TVs love curved designs?

When LED TVs have just gained a foothold in the home appliance market, OLED TVs have quietly arrived.

Recently, China has also released its first OLED display technical specifications. Lu Renbo, deputy secretary-general of the China Electronics Chamber of Commerce, said that OLED TV technical conditions have become increasingly mature, and panel mass production and size diversification have gradually been achieved. In the future, OLED TV will surely become a mainstream product in the color TV market. "Since the OLED market has just emerged, everyone unanimously decided that before the introduction of national standards, self-regulatory specifications in the nature of industry alliances should be introduced first to ensure the order of the OLED market in the future."

It is understood that the "Specifications" include six aspects: display viewing angle, color saturation, contrast, response speed, body thickness and weight, and curved surface design.

Samsung and LG both released curved OLED TVs last year, following the market trend. Skyworth recently released its first curved OLED organic TV.

Whether OLED TVs should be designed with a curved surface has once become the focus of controversy in the industry. One of the most obvious advantages of OLED organic TVs is the curved design. Cui Dongyuan, president of global marketing for LG Display, said that the curvature of the OLED organic curved TV launched by LGD is R5000mm. This curvature is calculated through strict and careful calculations and is in line with the curvature of the human retina. "It can reduce the distortion of image information and reduce eye fatigue."

"OLED can be made into curved or flat surfaces without adding any technical cost. Since OLED is thin and can currently be controlled below 5 mm, large-sized flat panels will naturally have curved properties. Therefore, the nature of OLED determines that it can be designed as a curved TV. However, how to design the end product in the market depends on how the company chooses."
